Let the shuttlecocks...

Shuttlecocks were flying...

… fly! And as they flew, so did the rain, sheet, and snow! This cherished event was a showcase for the Gentlemen to demonstrate their skill and prowess with racquet and shuttlecock. The Showdown saw the rise and fall of many teams, but in the end, junior upstarts, Will Dieterich and Jack Schichtel, faced off against another group of upstarts, Assistant Rector Nate McKeon and Vice President Ben Theis. The two teams battled it out before a crowd of badminton diehards who were treated to an excellent championship game.  The spirited and lively game saw McKeon and Theis, Shuttlecock Two, eek out a win over Wizard in Training. Congratulations to McKeon and Theis our Shuttlecock Showdown Champions!

Still, there was another showdown that saw Shuttlecock Two, Nate McKeon and Ben Theis, face a challenge from Shuttlecock One, Fr. Ralph and President Lynch. But due to poor court conditions and some very questionable officiating, Shuttlecock One was defeated by a score of 16 to 14. Sad indeed... and suffice it to say, several complaints were lodged.

On the day, Patrick Campbell, Steds junior and first time Showdowner, shared, “The Shuttlecock Showdown is the epitome of a gentleman’s game. The adversaries were painfully sublime, challenging even the grandest of competitors. The illustration of shuttlecocks flying is, dare I say, even grander than the royal procession of Bactria after Alexander the Great’s siege of Sogdian Rock. Nathaniel and Benjamin were the mightiest of foes, working with greater finesse than Michelangelo paining the Sistine Chapel and more delicately than the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles. To describe the event in one word: art. I look forward to next year’s showdown.”
