What do you do...

It was a prefect night...

... after winning ND Day and classes are over? Does one go to Disney World? No! We go on the Yacht Dance, of course! Oddly enough, the a week after ND Day was held was the last day of classes... AND Yacht Dance Day. Chance? I think not! Nor was the great weather! A bit chilly but no rain. So, it was perfect for a cruise, smooth sailing for one hundred and fifty-seven Stedsmen and their dates. The yacht shoved off at 11:40pm, and the dancing kicked off with the 90's classic, "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems." After sailing up and down the lake, the yacht returned to port at 1:45am with many tired dancers. On the attending the Yacht Dance for his first time, Evan von Rotz, Steds freshman and resident Californian, shared, “The best and only way to party is on a Steds yacht" while fellow freshman, resident North Carolinian, Ronan Sheppard, said, "It was a night full of energy and fun filling every second. Even in the way back, the speaker was blasting and we were singing into the morning!”

There was...

Country music time at ND

... a concert. Recently, there was a Luke Combs concert at the Notre Dame football stadium, drawing country music fans near and far. Thankfully, the rain held off, but the temps were a bit chilly. Yet, Combs made the crowd forget it all as they enjoyed a great performance. On attending the concert, Zach Jones, Steds sophomore and resident Texan, shared, "It was chilly but Luke Combs warmed ND stadium with a great performance. Some of my favorites were Tell Em’ About Tonight, Where the Wild Things Are, and 1, 2 Many. And Dierks Bentley, the opener, did a good job as well!"

We have...

Irish Entrepreneurs: Gomez with McCloskey

... a winner! Yes, Jonathan Perez Gomez, Steds freshman and resident Guadalajaran, recently won the McCloskey New Venture Competition People's Choice Award. What was Gomez's idea? In short, creating health care delivery system to be like a visit to your local Costco. Thanks to Gomez's idea, and a number of Steds attending the competition, Gomez pulled off a surprise win. On participating and wining, Gomez shared,

"Participating in McCloskey was such an incredible and fulfilling experience. As freshman with a social venture based in Mexico and in a single member team, I was competing against upperclassmen, grad students, and Alumni with multi-member teams full of experts from Yale and Harvard. So it was not easy, but I think that my young age and the passionate way I delivered my speech were factors that allowed me to win over the audience and some people even reached out to me to give me advice or tell me to contact them later so that they can introduce a possible investor later. Of course, I was hoping to get a flashy award like best undergraduate venture or the Grand Prize, but at the end I ended up getting the People’s Choice award. And this award was more fruitful than any other because it just proved how unified and amazing is the community of Steds, as many Stedsmen came over to vote and support the venture. Thank you all for coming!

Besides the awards, this event was an opportunity to listen and learn from highly experienced individuals. The founder of the entrepreneurship center at ND, Gary Gigot, gave a speech about his story in replicating entrepreneurial projects from the West Coast at Notre Dame. In the end, he publicly acknowledged my great job in my pitch, which I infinitely thanked him for. He then told me privately that being part of a family business that grows the good is something valuable at my young age. He gave me some advice and his blessing. This world of entrepreneurship is not easy; we will have to face rejection and unexpected things. But we should thank for the opportunities that exist out there and use them. You might make thousands of calls, knock on hundreds of doors, or shake dozens of hands, but it only takes one Good Samaritan that is willing to support you to make your dreams come true. Keep fighting and never give up. Go Irish!"

Saturday Squirrel.

Bon appetit!

Our furry friends are always on the look out for food, and some times, they find a treasure. That's what this squirrel found outside South Dining Hall. A discarded apple was found by this squirrel who didn't waste anytime enjoying it. On enjoying an apple, this squirrel non-verbaled, "Yum!"

Grads on the...

Steds in Stockholm: O'Leary, Bell, Ferraro and Sansone

... go. Peter Ferraro '23 is working for a Swedish company, and as a part of his "on boarding," he spending two months in Stockholm at the company's headquarters. Not wanting Ferraro to feel lonely, his fellow Stedsmen came and visited him... Jack O'Leary '23, Luke Bell '23, and Nick Sansone '23. On the visit and touring of other European capitols, Ferraro shared, "What better way to alleviate a little homesickness with a good old fashioned boys trip? After a few days sightseeing through the archipelago, we decided to swap the Swedish meatballs and ABBA music for some pierogis and Zabka runs in Warsaw. Luke, Nick, Jack, and I picked up exactly where we left off — proof that good roommates, current and former, always travel well!"

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU!

Thank you for making this ND Day, St. Ed's Day! Thank you to all Alumni, moms and dads, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins of whatever degree, grand and godparents, friends, Saturday’s squirrels, pets, and all people of good will! Yes, thank you for your support this ND Day!

It's true! Because of you, we rallied, and now, are once again the #1 residence hall of this ND Day. And if you are counting, this is now four thousand, three hundred and 80 days in the pole position among residence halls. Yup, this win makes it twelve years in a row!

Yes, because of you, Steds rocketed past other residence halls earlier on and zoomed to astonishing heights never seen before. In the end, the numbers tell it all... that when there is an opportunity to help the oldest and most storied residence hall at Notre Dame, everyone rallies for Hall and King!

On the historic win, Friday, Fr. Ralph said, “Thank you! We’re humbled by it all, and for a change, I am at a loss for words! THANK YOU!”

ND Day...

Cue something: Haag

... continues. As the everyone at Steds is busy contacting family and friends to rally to the Steds cause, an internet broadcast is going on. From the Duncan Student Center, the ND Day broadcast has interviews, student challenges, performances and more shedding light on so many things at Notre Dame. One performance was a student magician, the very one who performed at Mom's Weekend, Jacob Baum. Jacob took to the stage and did his magic doing Coach Lou Holtz's newspaper trick. On seeing him perform, an unknown member in the audience said, "He should be the commencement speaker at graduation!"

ND Day...

Help keep the smiles on faces like former Vice President Mackie's...

... started some time ago, but it's now getting real. Once again, we need your help to keep Notre Dame's oldest and most storied residence hall, Steds, at the top. Your help will, simply put, keep Steds being the special place that is as well as keep the smiles on the faces of its residents. On what he's hoping ND Day funds can do for the Hall, Henry Mackie, Steds freshman, former Hall Vice-President, and resident New Yorker, shared, "To ensure our Hall continues to flourish!"

Remember, only YOU can make their hopes a reality!

ND Day...

Help keep the smiles on faces like President Heffernan's...

… is HERE. Once again, the Gentlemen are asking for ANY and ALL support from ANY and ALL persons wherever they may be! If you are unaware of this important day, below is a message being sent to all family and friends of St. Edward's that explains the importance of this day.

It is only because of your generosity on this day that we can host our beloved events as well as start new ones, make renovations and upgrades to the Hall, support our inter-hall sports teams, and much more. In short, the funds raised on THIS DAY makes Steds, well, Steds. NONE of this would be possible without your support for this Notre Dame Day!  So, remember Steds and spread the word!

What is Notre Dame Day?

Notre Dame Day is a day for celebrating all things Notre Dame.  We hope that you tune in, take action, and help the important work of Notre Dame’s OLDEST AND MOST STORIED RESIDENCE HALL, ST. EDWARD’S HALL.

Why is this important?

Your participation will directly impact the life of our Hall the building of life long friendships, memories, and camaraderie that ultimately make the Notre Dame experience. But don't listen to me... hear it from the big man himself, President Michael Heffernan. On why someone should give to Steds, President Heffernan said, "St Edward’s Hall is the oldest dorm on campus. Within its walls there lives 150 young men seeking to get an education, build careers, and prepare themselves for the professional world. This is made possible by the donations given to us on ND Day. So please, donate, and help us accomplish our dreams and have some fun while we’re at it!"

How do I impact the life of St. Edward’s?

Watch the ND Day broadcast at notredameday.nd.edu and at the site, go to "causes" or use the search bar. Next, in the search bar, type in St. Edward’s (or St Ed’s), and give what you can. You can also find us by looking under residence halls too. Ten dollars is the perfect gift. Really. No gift is too much nor any gift too small. To give, click HERE.

Remember ND Day is NOW... and it gets serious on Tuesday, April 21st, and ends on Wednesday, April 22nd, at 11:59PM EST.

And don’t forget, please share this message with others, anyone and everyone can participate for St. Ed’s! To give, click HERE.

What will St. Edward’s Hall do with its Notre Dame Day funds?

As the oldest residence hall on campus, we need your support to help keep our Hall the special place that it is.  We have used past ND Day funds to make improvements to our common spaces, our pool room, the study lounges, gym and so much more.  We have also used funds for a new basketball hoop, a new outdoor hall sign, and new uniforms for our hall sports teams to win and lose in style. Check out the Hall’s blog HERE to see the daily life in St. Ed’s and the impact that this ND Day has here.

But remember, NONE of this would be possible if not for you.  Your participation, and the encouraging of others to do the same, make all of this possible, having an immediate and tremendous impact on the lives, camaraderie, and spirits of those who call this hall their home under the Dome.

All our love and thanks,

St. Edward & The Gentlemen of St. Edward’s Hall

Saturday Squirrel.

Just hanging around

On campus, you never know who you are going to see nor who is watching you! That's right. They, our furry friends, are always present, doing whatever it is that they do, and sometimes, just sometimes, you catch them in one of their favorite pastimes... watching us! That's exactly what happened when Fr. Ralph, who was walking by the great sycamore tree by Corby Hall commonly called the "Hand of God," noticed. Just by chance, Fr. Ralph looked up into the tree, and he saw this squirrel looking down at him. On being spotted, this squirrel non-verbaled, "Hi there."
