Saturday's Squirrel.

Hoping for Beef Wellington; a nacho chip will do just fine

We know that our furry friends prefer muffin tops, but what we may not know is that they are open to trying new foods. Tired of bland nuts and sugary muffins tops, campus squirrels are secret "foodies" at heart. I recently ran across this squirrel on God Quad whose non-verbals said, "Do you have any salsa picante for this nacho chip?"

They got married!

Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Ballard

Yes, they got married! In the company of family, friends, and many Stedsmen and with Fr. Ralph presiding, Meghan and Curtis were married this past weekend in historic and picturesque Sacket's Harbor, NY. As Meghan and Curtis danced the traditional “couple’s first dance” to a country song, Matt Posluszny, former Stedsman, said, “I didn’t know Curtis could dance.”

Say goodbye to...

...your old bathrooms. With the renovation in full swing and work occurring around the clock, the Sted's bathrooms were "flushed" unceremoniously out a window. When asked about the bathrooms, the site's project manager said, "When you gotta go, you gotta go, and those bathrooms had to go!" Indeed, project manager...indeed they did....

Your Sunday...

Magnificent.

...photo of Notre Dame. The sun setting on the Dome and the Sunday of a three day weekend. What else could you ask for?

Saturday’s Squirrel.

What are you looking at?

Yes, it was a tough winter here in the Bend, and it pushed many to take desperate measures, including our furry friend. He’s not proud, he’s just hungry.

Thoughts from abroad.

Planek (l) with Chris Masjak (r) in Budapest

Sted’s junior, John Planek, has been studying in London this past semester. When asked of his time in London, Planek had this to share.

St. Ed: Has studying abroad afforded you the opportunity to expand, as they say auf Deustch, your “Weltanschauung,” or worldview?

Planek: Traveling so much has been a great experience since I had never left the USA before. Sometimes it's strange to see so many languages spoken, but almost everyone knows English and is willing to help you. Except the French, especially in Paris.

St. Ed: What countries have yet to visit before returning Stateside?

Planek: My final trip was last weekend. From England I've travelled to Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, and the Vatican.

St. Ed: While in London, have you “mind the gap”?

Planek: I have minded quite a few gaps, and I've had enough of referring to elevators as "lifts." Makes me miss the good old Sted’s Vator.

St. Ed: Open Mic. Anything you want to say?

Planek: It's been a great semester. My favorite trip was to Rome and attending Easter Mass with Pope Francis. It was incredible. Still, I'm looking forward to coming back to ND for Finals Week and see all the Stedsmen on campus!

Lake Michigan Calling.

Yes, but can you bring the water a little closer?

Partly because of having no where else to lay my head, I decided to head up to the Lake Michigan. Yes, a little R & R is exactly what was needed, and you know what? It’s busy work. So, during the summer, I will blog a little less, but don’t worry, the blog will continue!

Moving Out Day...

Daniel Wrapp and his mother saying good bye and departing for Phoenix

...is finally here. Yes, the last exodus from campus began today with sun and cool breezes. Today's move out from St. Edward's also marked the beginning of the interior renovation. As residents were leaving, movers, contractors, and others with blue prints wasted no time and moved in. On seeing the small army of people descend on Sted's, Michael Son, Sted's Junior, said, "We really are going to be renovated this summer." Yes, Michael, we are... we really are.

Hats off...

I would like a corner piece, thank you.

...to the Graduates! Congratulations to our Stedsmen who graduate today. On their accomplishment, Maem, Sted's Housekeeper, said, "They've come a long way." Indeed, they have...indeed they have.

Seeing the Boss.

2013-2014 St. Edward's Hall Staff with Fr. Ted

The graduating Sted's Hall Staff paid a visit to Fr. Ted Hesburgh, C.S.C. in his office on the 13th floor of the Hesburgh Library. The visit was filled with handshakes and congratulations, glimpses of interesting memorabilia, great views of campus, and of course, a special blessing from Fr. Ted. After the visit, Fr. Ralph was quoted as saying, “It’s nice to be President Emeritus.”
