Saturday squirrel.

Falco peregrinus

Once again, our furry friends are taking a break, and as they do, another campus neighbor takes a step forward... or perhaps here... a perch. Spotted a top Mary on the Dome, a peregrine falcon, also known as a duck hawk, was spotted. At one time, a family of peregrine falcons had taken up residence in the Basilica steeple, but having grown up, they have flown the proverbial coop. Well, not of them. This falcon is staying close to home, taking a perch like none other, looking always for a furry friend or two. This perch is not only beautiful but also perfect for allowing the falcon, who is renowned for its speed, do its high-speed hunting dive, where it can reach speeds up to 200 mph!
