Meadowcroft: studying or drafting a new line up?

... with this picture? Why is the Steds baseball coach, Brooks Meadowcroft, studying studiously in room? Shouldn't he and the Boys in Green and Gold be out on the baseball diamond? Indeed, they should, but clearly they are not. Why? Well, the first time they were playing but then there was "lightning." When they went out to play again, it was something else that stopped them... malfunction lights. Next, it was "wet conditions" that cancelled the game. Finally, when they could play, the first round of exams was occurring, and unfortunately, Steds had to forfeit, being one man short to field a team. But after all of this, playing only three endings and forfeiting one game, Steds is in the playoffs! On the making the playoffs, Coach Meadowcroft said, "Of course, we're excited, but who knows. We may still be trying to finish this season in January." 

Coach Meadowcroft went on to say, "This can’t be me in the above photo as I don’t remember ever doing any work here."

Clearly the pressure and stress from the playoff season is getting to him!
