... did not last long. On day four of the Third Olympiad saw a most unique competition make an appearance- spelling bee. Yes, everyone's favorite, spelling bee, pitted Stedsmen Danny Hincka, Hayden Mascarenhas, Jake Smith, Nick Haggestad, Eoghan Fay, and Nico Dinglasa against several Sorinites. Actually, the Stedsmen had to encourage the Sorinites to come out and spell, and one brave Gentleman, Jared Walsh, Steds junior and resident Illinoian, took matters into his own hands (see above). Eventually, the Sorinites were coaxed out of their hall. Facing off in front of Sorin- but not on the grass of God Quad- our spellers spelled away. Dinglasa was an early and surprise casualty, and eventually, one Steds speller was left... Smith. Yes, after TEN ROUNDS, it was all up to Smith. He could bring home the "W" or, well, the big "L." Smith's word? Connoisseur... which Smith misspelled. On the spelling bee lost, Vice President Brendan Moriarty said, "What can I say, but Sorin had some good spellers," but Fr. Ralph was defiant in the loss stating, "Connoisseur? What language is that? It's not American!"
