…funds at work! As funds continue to be dispersed, improvements are continuing to be made around the Hall. Another improvement thanks to Notre Dame Day funds is the exit window of St. Ed’s Hall Chapel. Instead of a bland, clear window, we now have a window the has coat of arms of our patron, St. Edward the Confessor. St. Edward, Confessor and King of England, has a coat of arms that holds a gold cross on a blue shied with five martlets… a stylized bird similar to a martin or swallow. Ancient and reserved only for royalty, St. Edward’s coat of arms added instant legitimacy to those who had it as a part of their own, and perhaps that why Henry VIII banned its use and executed others for using it. On the new window, Fr. Ralph said, “It's really just a big sticker, but make no mistake about it. It's a sticker that's added to the uniqueness of our chapel, and at the same time, given us a unique reminder of the one who has a close eye on us, our patron, St. Edward the Confessor!"
