... rays. Notre Dame will soon be catching some rays as it constructs its first "solar farm" on the far western side of campus. Located to the west of Carroll Hall and to east of State Route 933, the campus solar farm is a part of the University's green energy initiative. Currently, the University gets twenty percent of its energy needs from renewable sources and aims to be carbon neutral by 2050. Of course, like all ranching, solar ranching has it challenges, and here at Notre Dame the big challenge is the "Permacloud," that seemingly permanent cloud over campus from December to February. On the challenges to catching a few rays in Northwest Indiana, Fr. Terry Ehrman, CSC, botanist and "green" theologian, said, "Tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar... and bit coin... that tomorrow, there'll be sun!"
