A message from...

...the President, Cole Edwards. Actually, it's more than just a message. It's a message AND an interview from the man leading Operation ND Day. In addition to advancing his studies and general procrastination, President Edwards is rallying everyone, deploying all forces, agents, operatives, activating all sleeper cells and mustering everything to aid and advance the Hall's 2018 ND Day campaign. Even though ND Day is a few a couple of weeks away, the Hall campaign starts today. Before it did, I had the chance to talk with President Edwards.

St.Ed: Is ND Day really that important to St. Ed’s?

Edwards: Yes, in a huge way. While other dorms may have a leg up on us in terms of size and other fundraising advantages, the consistent ability of St. Edwards Hall to succeed in this annual event should have those other halls and groups wondering how and why we manage to do it-- and for good reason. There is a motivated spirit here shared among us that is no more evident than when working together for the common good of the hall and all its residents. To keep the spirit of St Ed’s alive we all play a part in the work that needs to be done just as we all have our own roles within the hall that make it so unique to us. Not to mention that it is extremely, extremely critical that we can continue to proclaim our status as sole-yacht-dance-possessors-on-campus, but that should go without saying.

St.Ed: What are you and your administration doing to make this year’s ND Day campaign a success?

Edwards: Like my predecessor President Trzaska, I can’t say that I will be leading any sort of ND Day revolution. But, thankfully, no revolution is necessary because we have proven to be masters in the art of fundraising. Our plan is to build off of the work that those in recent years have done with relentless outreach and a strong message that no kind-hearted soul could possibly refuse. What we want to make clear is that not only are the big events important to us, but what often goes unsaid are those small things that ND Day funds go towards that keep our hall in tip-top shape throughout the year. All is important for the maintenance of a thriving Steds. 

St.Ed: If this year’s campaign is successful as last year’s was, how will the Hall use its ND Day funds?

Edwards: Of course it is important that we can continue with our tradition of yacht dance, but there are several things around the hall that are due for an upgrade. We are looking into providing a new outdoor basketball hoop for our aspiring athletes as well as possibly repainting the parking lot with a fresh crown and laurels. We also hope to bring in some new furniture to the first floor lounge. We may even be able to buy a lamp or two to lessen Father Ralph’s animosity toward overhead lighting...

St.Ed: Why should someone give to St. Ed’s on ND Day?

Edwards: Without generous donors so much of what we do here in St. Ed’s could not be possible. We are very aware of this, and, though it may not always be obvious, we really are grateful for everything that we receive. A successful ND Day would mean that all residents would get yet another great year living within that hall, and perhaps even more importantly our incoming freshmen would get to experience this great community to the fullest and adopt it as their own. It’s for the kids!
