On a sidewalk at ND: Starships

... up, and ready to go. After a night at the hanger, these GrubHub Starships are ready to make deliveries across campus, bringing desperately needed food to persons who can't get it themselves by walking. Yes soon these six wheel scooters, with their flashing orange lights, will cross your path, cutting you off like a New York City cab on the Van Wick headed to LaGuardia, as it rushes to make a delivery to some starving person. Someone who knows these bots in and out, literally, is Colin Davidson, Steds senior and Grubhub Starship technician. Once employed by Starship, Davidson was once the ONLY technician at Notre Dame for these motorized toasters on wheels. On seeing his old friends scoot here and there, Davidson shared, "It’s been a year now since I’ve left Starship (the maker of the Grubhub robots). I find it amazing how quickly they went from “my babies” to just the robots. I hardly notice them when I walk around campus now. They’ve continued to make tremendous strides though, adding some wireless charging units next to the stadium, as well as continuing to map out and expand their range on campus. But I do miss the job, particularly the daily fast paced problem solving and getting my hands dirty taking apart the robots. But hey, I’ve moved on bigger, better, more pharmaceutical things.”
