Saturday squirrel.

We see you

We are not alone. Many times are being watched, and we simply don't know it. Yes, we're being watched, watched by our furry friends! Perhaps we're caught up it in a conversation, fixated on our phone, or just looking in the opposite direction and we miss the fact that a campus squirrel is watching us. But that wasn't the case when recently walking around St. Mary's Lake. Trying to look inconspicuous and blend into his surroundings, this squirrel's effort was in vain. On being spotted, this squirrel non-verbaled, "What gave me away?"

An old friend...

Welcome!

... returns. After many years of dependable and on-the-spot service, the shower stands in the first floor showers had to be retired. The hard water of Northern Indiana had taken a toll on our shower friends, and in the end, they succumbed to the mineral build up and corrosion. May their memories be a blessing! Their departure left shower goers in a pickle as they had no convenient place to place their shower caddies, but fear not, because ND Day funds stepped in. Yes, thanks to ND Day funds, new shower stands were purchased, and after hours of assembly, normalcy and convenience returned to the Steds first floor showers. On the return of shower stands, Henry Mackie, Steds freshmen, 1st floor resident, and resident New Yorker, shared, "Luxury showers are back now that we have stands preventing any personal items from getting wet!"

It's...

No, you... and please take both because...

... back! Yup, everyone's favorite sandwich, the ND Lobster Roll, is back! Not just for Lent, the ND Lobster Roll is a sandwich for all season, and now, packed with gratuitous amount of faux lobster. Served on a generously scorched bun, the Lobster Roll provides a fake escape from whatever may be troubling the minds and hearts of diners. Like the Sirens of mythology, the Lobster Roll beckons, nay, entices, diners to choose them for dinner.  Yes, partakers of these most unique rolls are temporarily transported to far away places, even to places where real lobsters are, all forgetting the pressing cares and demanding concerns of day, enjoying a moment of what surely is short term bliss. Yes, everything is smoothing sailing for ND diners until reality makes a sudden and painful reappearance, crashing down like a rogue wave out of the deep blue, making everyone come to their senses, realizing that it all was just a dream, an illusion, especially that lobster that you just ate because it was fake! On these sandwiches, Nikolai Eggleton, Steds senior, In the Red Room co-host, Orlandoan foodie, states, "The scary part isn’t that the dining hall is serving “lobster” rolls, but that there are only two left."

Let's loose...

Dave and Debbie Lis showing their colors...

... the gold, blue, white, and green of the Fighting Irish! Like the Colosseum of antiquity, the L.A. Coliseum provided great fun and entertainment as the Irish paid a visit. In the ninety-fifth meeting of these two team, a rivalry second to none, there was much riding on the game, salvaging of any dignity left of one program and securing a playoff spot for the other. And while the game was close, in the end, the Irish prevailed, defeating the Trojans by a score of 49 to 35. Amid the rejoicing Irish fans were many Stedsmen, Steds parents, and friends of Steds. And for one Steds family, the Lis Family, it was a house divided within a house divided as Alec Lis '22 and his mom, Debbie, were unquestionably on the side of the Irish while dad, Dave, was a house divided, having loyalties to both to ND and USC as he received his MBA with USC. On the Lis double divided house, Fr. Ralph shared, "While I was not there, I am still going to double down here. There's no question that Dave was really for the Irish. He is wearing a USC hat. We all know that it's the shirt that really counts! Just saying."

It just would not...

The Christmas tree with Bardsley, Heffernan, and Verrier...

... be the Advent season without a Christmas tree. So, with the help of dedicated freshmen residents, Liam Verrier and Michael Heffernan, and a RA, Christian Bardsley, the Hall's Christmas tree made its arrival. In short order, the comely tree took up residence in the Gregorian Lounge, just fitting, adding its beautiful pine fragrance to a room that could use a bit of aromatic assistance. Decorating and naming of the tree will happen later this week, and so there's more to come. On the Christmas tree's arrival, Fr. Ralph said, "In the words of Clark Griswald's Dad in the movie Christmas Vacation, 'She's a beaut Clark!'"

Your Sunday picture...

A postcard view

... from Notre Dame. Here's a fall view of Sorin and the Main Building taken earlier in the season. To the keen eye, one will notice that the shrubbery around the Sorin statue has been removed, allowing for a more generous view of God Quad, Sorin, and the Main Building in the glory of fall colors. Enjoy, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!
