Your Sunday picture...

Look closely!

... from Notre Dame. Here's an early morning view of the O'Neill Family Hall of Music, the south building of the football stadium complex. If you look closely, then you see two stars. These stars are not stars but rather planets. The brighter of the two is Jupiter while the smaller one is Venus. Enjoy, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

Saturday Squirrel.

Tamiasciurus hudsonicus

This week's furry friend is the American red squirrel. American red squirrels are smaller than their cousins the box squirrel, but they're far more territorial. This American red squirrel, spotted on the western side of St. Mary's Lake, was enjoying a walnut for breakfast. On being spotted, he non-verbaled, "Keep moving.... keep moving and get out of here!"

More non-winners...

LaSalle's putting himself into defeat...

... there were. Kyle Hill was not the only one to feel the sting of defeat at the Steds Labor Day Putt Putt Classic. Thirty-three others also felt that sting, and a painful sting it was.  One of those persons who didn't win was Carter LaSalle. Was it a particular hole that gave him trouble? Was it his sub-par swing? Who knows? In the end, despite giving it his best, LaSalle's best just wasn't good enough to win. On participating in the SLDPP Classic, LaSalle, Steds freshman and resident Californian, stated, "Labor Day Classic motto, courtesy of Lou Holtz, should be 'You aren’t good enough to get mad…' so enjoy the putt."

Not a...

Hill's disappointment and frustration...

... winner. Sadly, for every winner, there is a loser. While Kevin Rybinski, Steds senior and 4th RA, is winning (see yesterday's post), fellow senior and 4th floor RA, Kyle Hill, is not. Also participating in the Steds Labor Day Putt Putt Classic, Hill had a much different ending than Rybinski's. Hill had a fast and furious start, but somewhere on the back nine, he eased up on the gas pedal, losing momentum, and ultimately, his serene and placid demeanor. On losing the SLDPP Classic, Hill, Steds senior and resident New Jerseyan, soberly and stoically stated, "Whether it’s a Super Bowl, an Olympic Gold Medal, or a Steds Labor Day Putt Putt Championship, the best of the best consistently rise to the occasion and perform. However, I was not one of those persons. In a situation where a Tiger Woods performance was required, I could only manage to be Tiger Would-Not."

Winner, twice...

The Brothers Rybinski are all smiles, once...

... over! Steds is a hall of winners, and so, it comes as no surprise that one of our very own is not just a winner but a winner twice over! Kevin Rybinski, Steds Senior, 4th floor RA, member of ND Cheerleading,  twin brother of Thomas Rybinksi (1st floor RA), and resident Marylander, recently won once and then again, all in quick succession. And thankfully, it did not all go to his head! First, Rybinski was notified via email, received in the Steds Flounge, that he had secured his place in the cheer squad. Indeed, twin brother, Thomas, and all of us for that matter, breathed a sigh of relief. Next, Rybinksi entered the Steds Labor Day Putt Putt Classic, where throwing women into the air and yelling through a megaphone led to having an edge in sinking putts on tricky, unpredictable greens. In the Rybinski won the Classic with a score of 34, two under par!

On his first win, Rybinski shared, "Returning for my second year on the Notre Dame cheer team is such an honor and privilege. Being part of the game-day experience and cheering on the boys is truly amazing. This past year has taught me so many valuable life lessons—and some fun skills too, like how to do a backflip! I’m pumped for another year of cheering, growth, and unforgettable memories. GIRISH!"

While on his second win, Rybinski declared, "The Steds Labor Day Putt Putt Classic (SLDPPC)  is the premier golf tourney in all of Indiana, bringing Stedsmen together to embrace the spirit of competition and build camaraderie. Huge thanks to my grandpa—those years of mini golf training paid off and helped me card the winning score of two under. Another great year in the books at the SLDPPC. Now, where's my green jacket?"
