A sign of...
... the times the Notre Dame classroom is. Classrooms across campus have been configured to keep the Covid away by ensuring that students are at least six feet a part. And to make sure that the six feet is kept, giant green HERE stickers have been placed on the floor of classroom. Eye catching for sure, but they really do help learning students know where to be so their learning can be maximized and their quarantining minimized. On the HERE stickers on floors, Joe Herlihy, Steds senior and Marylander, said, "I'm a big fan of the change. Now, I don’t need to deal with sitting next to a guy who skipped his morning shower.”

It's almost...
... over. Yes, Christmas Break is almost over. With Hall Staff arriving today and tomorrow, residents will soon be arriving too... after scheduling a Covid test of course. Before returning to the Hall and campus, all students must be tested for the Covid. And something else that will be awaiting the students when they return are the three things that make winter at Notre Dame winter... cold temperatures, snow, and the "permacloud." On these three gems, Fr. Ralph, Rector and native Nebraskan said, "Well, it could be worse. We all could be in Nebraska... and we all know Nebraska is not for everyone."

On assignment...
... in Florida. Leaving Nebraska behind, Fr. Ralph moved south to a location with warmer temps and sunnier skies. While it is nice to be in the Great Plains, it can be a bit plain in January. It's also nice, every now and then, to have a change of scenery and lifestyle... and Florida, with its snowbirds, truly has its own lifestyle. On having some time in Florida, Fr. Ralph said, “I wish Steds could have a satellite campus down here... the sand, surf, and sunshine would be the body and spirit good!"

... not from Notre Dame but Nebraska. While it is not a destination for everyone, for those who do visit this slice of the Great Plains, Nebraska does have its surprising moments of beauty. And one such moment was this sunset that came after an unseasonable warm day. But beauty, like unseasonably warm January days, are fleeting, for after this serene moment came a dose of reality in the form of a blizzard. Enjoy the blizzard from afar and your Sunday wherever you may be!

What do you...
... do when you have so much Christmas Break on your hands? With classes starting on February 3rd, the Stedsmen have a lot of time on their hands. Without any doubt, much of that time will be devoted to sleep and napping. Still, some time will be devoted to a temporary job or idleness. Still yet, some time will be devoted to other various pursuits and, once again, in this posting, we will be investigating what those pursuits, happenings, and adventures are. During his break, John Welsch, Steds senior and aspiring mechanical engineer, took up America’s on the couch past time- watching Jeopardy. Perhaps he was honing his skills to make the college Jeopardy tournament or maybe he was just bored. Whatever it was, Welsch was a the proverbial shoo-in when it came asking a question… asking a question about St. Edward. On giving his response and asking his question to the answer in the picture above, Welsch exclaimed, “What is 1882?” Sadly, the answer was "What is 1066?" Still, Welsch gave it the old college go, making Stedsmen everywhere proud.

What's happening at...
... Notre Dame during the extended Christmas Break? Not a lot, but there is some activity, and it's right by Steds. To the west of Steds, the new extension for the Alliance for Catholic Education (or A.C.E. for short) building is nearing completion. Remick Family Hall, started and then stopped and then started again, has been an active construction over break, and thank God for that. With construction happening during the break, it means there will be less noise for the Gentlemen to contend with when they return in early February. On the continuing construction, an unnamed Stedsman said, "I am sure it will be a sight to behold when complete and only add to our Hall's curb appeal."

... on Monday. Just because a computer was misplaced shouldn't mean that everyone should miss out on this beautiful Nebraskan winter sunset. While the state's tourist jingle may be "Nebraska: it's not for everyone," I think we all can agree that this sunset is for everyone. Enjoy... and here's to not misplacing one's computer again.
