Your Sunday picture...

A lovely sight

... from Notre Dame. It's still cold, but the great news is that the sun is out. Yes, the sun is shining. Take that permacloud! But we cannot life, it would be nice if it was a just a bit warmer too. Here's the setting sun and the flag on South Quad in the foreground. Enjoy, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

Saturday Squirrel.

Leave me alone

Our furry friends are engaging. They are always looking to capture our attention and snag a hand out in the process. But some times... they just want a little peace and quiet, and that was what this squirrel was looking for while sitting on a branch and looking out over St. Joseph's Lake. No question about it. Squirrels are very sociable, but sometimes, they are just like us, desiring some silence. On being spotted enjoying the silence, this squirrel non-verbaled, "Can I have a moment please?"

Reflections from...

You just had to be there...

... Atlanta. Yes, as we continue to congratulate our football for a fantastic season and a great run for the Championship, we hear from those who were there cheering them on. Today, we hear from Amy Mathes, Steds mom of Jay and Parker Mathes and ND grad, who not only lives in Atlanta but also was at the game with her husband, Joe, and friends. On being Despite a tremendous  spirited effort by the Irish, the outcome was not what we hoped for. Yet, we all know…

Best of...

... the Gentlemen's Monthly. Yes, TWO years ago today, here was today's posting. Enjoy this blast from the past.

Rallying the...

Holden: Plain and simple- Get a mullet Sasso!

...Gentlemen is the order of the day, the day before Mullets Against Malaria (MAM). Determined to defeat malaria, Steds is swinging into action under the direction of Commissioner Storch. But every Gentlemen is doing his part for King and Hall to ensure a swift and decisive victory over the enemy, malaria. Recently, Holden Welter was spotted in the lobby do his part to recruit everyone who has a follicle to cut to join the battle. Running into freshman Andrew Sasso, Holden's directions were clear... get a mullet. Suffice it to say, there is excitement and fanfare for this much anticipated moment of getting mullets, but yet, at the same time, quietly, there is a healthy amount of fear and trepidation among those heading off to the front with mullets, especially the freshmen. Questions of "What can a mullet really achieve?" and "Are my follicles really needed?" arise in minds of the inexperienced youth.

On getting a mullet, Sasso shared, "I’m beyond prepared to take part in this legendary tradition that has been a crucial part of the Steds culture for a decade I have let the hair grow out since August so that I can fully experience the power that comes with the beautifully sculpted Steds mullets. There’s nothing better than getting a great mullet for a great cause, and I’m excited to experience it with all my brothers!"

On having a new batch of recruits for the fight, Welter said, "These young recruits have been prepared to continue the tradition in helping others with our mullets, and they are ready to rock them proudly and with honor!"

It's...

That delivering is going to be late

... cold out there! As cold from the Arctic drops down from up north, covering our Nation, campus has plunged into freezing and sub-zero weather. Suffice it to say, it's tough on everyone. While the temperatures have not reached levels where classes have been canceled, everyone should still take precautions as frostbite is a real concern. Still yet, this weather is impacting more than we know... why it's even impacting our Grubhub Starships. Yes, even machines are affected by these freezing temps! On spotting this Starship that had succumb to the cold, Fr. Terry Ehrman, CSC, said, "We need Tauntauns from Hoth from Star Wars to deliver food as robots are having trouble adjusting to the cold."

National...

We appreciate you

... Squirrel Appreciation Day. Just when you thought that we forgot to appreciate a group with a special day, well, you're wrong... because we even remembered to have a day just for our furry friends... squirrels. Thanks to Julie Scott, mother of Stedsman, Chris Scott, we can remind you of this very special day which, in all honesty, we could have easily overlooked. Now, many would say that we appreciate our furry friends enough as we devote an entire day to them EVERY week. True, but you know what, having a special appreciation day removes any and all doubt of our love for our campus friends. On this Squirrel Appreciation Day, Fr. Ralph Haag, CSC, Rector and squirrel friend, said, "Make sure to appreciate a furry friend today!"

Championship Monday!

McKenna, Gallagher, Mackie and Fischer with Gillis (center)...

Who knew will would ever be looking forward to a Monday, but we did... this Monday! If you didn't know, because you were living in a cave, today is the National Championship Playoff! And as Irish fans gather in Atlanta to cheer on their team, so too the Stedsmen. One group of Stedsmen had a chance encounter with none other than Shane Gillis. After dinner, while walking down the street in Midtown Atlanta, a group of Steds freshmen encountered a group of guys walking in the opposite direction. Patrick Fischer, Henry Mackie, and Shaun McKenna took a double take, with Henry pointing and calling out Shane Gillis. Next thing you know, they got a picture with Shane and his dad. Both were very friendly and happy to oblige. On encountering Shane Gillis, Shaun McKenna, Steds freshman and resident Connecticuter, shared, "Shane and his electric optimism drove our Irish spirits higher than we thought possible. The Irish will be crowned once again!”
