Remembering...

Haag and Garza: Brothers in Mullets...

... all our boys! Some of our boys were delayed in heading off to front for one reason or another. Still, their hatred for malaria and love for the kids motivated them to nevertheless head off to front and do their duty to Hall and King. One such solider was freshman Pedro Garza. With locks to give, Garza received his mullet late, but his determination to do his worst against the enemy was not diminished. In the end, after receiving his mullet, Garza received what has to be the "sportiest" mullet that wreaks nothing but cool, sending the enemy running for the proverbial hills. On passing by the main lobby, AJ Vanchieri, freshman and resident Nevadan, happen to caught this cool mullet and another, Fr. Ralph's, which recently got an upgrade to make it more pronounced. Lucky AJ. On his receiving his mullet, Garza said, "Everyone knows that nothing scares malaria as much as a mullet. But honestly, it's interesting to see just how creative one can get when it comes to doing a service to others and raising awareness about an issue. It's been an honor!" 

On being asked when he would be relieved of his mullet, Fr. Ralph said, "I will keep my mullet until all our boys come home!

... Day! Yes, that's right. Spring Break, with all its rest and leisure, has been condensed into one day this year, and that day is today! Thankfully, it was a bright sunny day, but unfortunately, the sunshine did not translate into a warm and agreeable temperature. Regardless, the most was made of the day. 

One thing that every Stedsmen did... yes, you guessed it... was to sleep in, and sleep in they did! But in doing so, they had to forgo breakfast. Fear not! Thanks to a generous donor, a late morning brunch was served in the Flounge, consisting of every favorite of our Stedsmen- Chick-Fil-A chicken or sausage biscuit sandwiches, Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts, Einsteins bagels, and orange juice. It was a veritable feast for a king, or in this case, as Fr. Sorin would have said himself, a feast for the University's' princes. If only every morning could be like this! 

Thanks to Josh Chapple, Senior and RA, setting up everything, it really was like Christmas morning when the Gentlemen entered the Flounge this morning of Spring Break Day. On the late morning brunch, Luca Marini, Steds sophomore and resident Brazilian, said, "Do I rest, or do I study during this Spring Break? Not sure, but all I do know is I need some breakfast! Thank you!"

We have VICTORY in our battle against malaria! 

The power of Steds mullets could not be repelled, and the enemy is now on the run. With the nets that will be purchased through your donations, the enemy will cede more territory, and soon, malaria will have no place to hide. 

While our boys are returning home, our fight is not over, the war will go. Indeed, the enemy will see our brave boys and their powerful, magnificent mullets again! But for now, it’s back to the Steds barracks for some R&R and a haircut!

Earlier this afternoon, President Nichols and Vice Presidents Moriarty and Giugliano received Steds Mullet Commander in Chief, Matt Verdeschi, in the Gregorian Mural Room, receiving his order to cease operations and demobilize. And as sign of the Hall's gratitude, Verdeschi was promoted and elevated to Supreme Commander in Chief of Mullet forces.

On the successful campaign, the Supreme Commander shared, “After a hard-fought battle, our troops with their luscious mullets can confidently declare victory. But know this… We shall ALWAYS go on to the end. We shall fight on grassy quads, we shall fight in dinning halls, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the classrooms, we shall defend those in need of our help, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the sidewalks, we shall fight in the bookstore, we shall fight in the sports fields and in the stadium, we shall fight in the parking lots, we shall never surrender, for the kids!”

We thank those who gave their follicles for the fight, but we also must give THANKS to all those from who joined us in this fight, monitoring our progress, buoying our spirits, making donations, all of which made this campaign a RESOUNDING SUCCESS beyond our imagination, raising $18,315! Whether or not we donned a mullet, regardless of where we are, today's victory is something we ALL can be proud of and celebrate! THANK YOU!

Glory's mantle- and fog- cloaks thee...

... from Notre Dame. The combination of snow and warm temperatures had made for melting and a lot of fog. Early morning fog has enveloped campus, shrouding everything. While the fog burns off by midmorning, there's an eerie feel about campus until it does. Here's a view of Mary and the Dome shrouded in a fog. ... front. Even though they are at the front lines, the Stedsmen still have time for high jinx. Taking advantage of the seasonable warm and sunny weather, some our brave boys assembled on the steps of Washington Hall to take a photo for those at home. First, it was to the left, then it was to the right. Finally, it was a much deserved salute to the Commander in Chief, Matt Verdeschi. Without doubt, spirits are running high, and there are smiles under those masks! On seeing our brave boys, an unnamed woman exclaimed, "It's raining mullets!"

The war...

Nash: Fighting another war

... continues! Yes, the war against malaria continues. While great progress against the enemy has been made and all fronts are advancing, the Stedsmen are not slowing down. They're continue to press forward, fearlessly and courageously with almost reckless abandon. Still yet, with some Stedsmen getting last minute haircuts, MORE mullets and racing stripes are being deployed to the front. But as the war continues, there are some who have stayed behind and remained at the home front. They have done so not because they like malaria. Perish the thought. They, like ALL Stedsmen, hate malaria. They may not have follicles to contribute, but nevertheless, they too do their duty to Hall and King in this war. But what are they doing? One such person is CJ Nash. On being at the home front, this Junior and resident Alabaman shared, "Churchill used to motivate his soldiers by saying 'The eyes of the world are upon you,' but it is also a staunch reminder of the necessity to do laundry late Friday night.”

To war!

Mullets to stop malaria!

The Gentlemen are off to war! After receiving their mullets, racing stripes, or both, our brave Gentlemen are off at the front battling the enemy- malaria. This year, a record number of Gentlemen answered the call to take an 80's hairstyles all in the hopes of defeating a despicable enemy. With spirits running high, the Gentlemen received their haircuts and then immediately headed off to the front. Words cannot capture the bravery and courage that these young men exuded. Their resolve and determination would edify the dispassionate, but Pete McKeon, the most free spirited and passionate 3rd floor AR,  said, "Not since Normandy have I seen this level of dedication. But, unlike Normandy, all of these guys left the battlefield against malaria in better shape than they entered. Two words: Hubba hubba. These gentleman simply look stunning.”
