Saturday squirrel.

Up, up, and away

As our furry friends are once again taking a break for appearing on the blog and now are officially on hiatus, yet another campus neighbor can make an appearance. The Branta canadensis, or Canada goose in common parlance, is on the move. Spotted anywhere on campus but predominantly at the lakes, Canada gooses are at times standoff, aggressive at others, and flighty in between. Year round residents at Notre Dame, gooses never stray too far from the heated lake of St. Joseph's- thanks to the power plant- but today, they were on the go. On being spotted flying, one goose non-verbaled, "Tootles!"

A Gentleman Ponders...

Meares with his fellow Stedsmen...

... was held once again with Joe Meares ’10. "A Gentleman Ponders" lectures series are a collection of conversations that may be academic at times while at others practical. Regardless of which they may be, they all touch upon what it means to be a "gentleman" in today's times, and Meares shared his thoughts on the matter as a former Stedsman, Bengal Bout Champion, Wall Street financier, and now real estate developer. Entitled “Health, Wealth, and Positive Thinking: A Stedsman’s Musings for Success,” Meares delivered a candid reflection, answering any all questions from finance to real estate, from the challenges facing men today to the power of positive thought and faith. On participating and leading the series for his fellow Stedsmen, Meares, Stedsman and resident New Yorker, said, “That was an awesome!”

Overlooked, but...

Nick and Amanda at the Grotto...

... not forgotten! During Boise State Weekend, Nick and Amanda LaMott, both '08, renewed their wedding vows in the presence of their children, Declan and Bennett, and others at the Grotto. With Fr. Ralph witnessing, the happily married couple only became more so as they renewed their vows. Suffice it to say, it was emotionally moving for all present. On the renewal, Nick, former Steds RA and resident Idahoan, shared, "The highlight of our campus trip was renewing my vows with Amanda—my wife of sixteen years—at the Grotto, where we first got engaged. Fr. Ralph officiated, with our sons by our side. Though we weren’t married at Notre Dame, this place (especially St. Eds) —and even more so, its people—have always held a special place in our lives."

Best wishes and congratulations Amanda and Nick LaMott!

They got married!

Fr. Behbud with Valentina and Peter...

It's official! They got married! Surrounded by his family and friends, Peter Molyneaux ’20 and Valentina Valizada were married at the Chapel of St. John Paul II in Baku, Azerbaijan. Yes, Baku, Azerbaijan! It’s the home of the bride, Valentina. While Fr. Ralph prepared the couple for marriage, Fr. Behbud Mustafayev witnessed and received the vows, making it his third wedding ever. Afterward, it was time for a party where not only the couple was feted but also where many others had gathered, including fellow Stedsmen. That’s right! Fellow Stedsmen, Gabriel Solorzano '20, John Quinlan '20, and James Moreman '20, joined Molyneaux on his wedding day! On joining Valentina and Peter for their wedding, Solorzano shared, “Love was in the Azerbaijani air. The early November Eurasian weather blessed the Stedsmen that made the pilgrimage to celebrate Peter and Valentina’s marriage. James learned the traditional Azeri dances, Johnny Q made new friendships, and I learned about their culture. T’was truly an unforgettable experience that marked yet another chapter in our everlasting Steds friendship.”

Congratulations to Peter and Valentina Molyneaux!
