A Monday...

... never felt more like a Monday than this one. Why? Because it's the Monday after Mom's Weekend! Moms have left, and well, the energy, smiles, and laughter and more, well, is gone. What we have are grey clouds, cold temps, and classes. We would be lying if we didn't admit this! On the exit of moms and their special weekend now in the rear view of life, Fr. Ralph shared, "I feel like a bottle of champagne that was uncorked and forgotten about on a kitchen countertop. I am, we all are, just a bit flat today."

Goodbye...

Our Gentlemen Usher 2025...

...Mom’s Weekend 2025! All good things must come to an end, and so too, our beloved Mom’s Weekend. But still, what fun we had! Thanks to Ryan Davey, the Commissioner for this special weekend, for his energy and dedication to make this weekend a reality. It’s a heavy lift, and we’re glad Davey lifted!

Still, there was a small crew of helpers behind the scenes, our Gentlemen Ushers, who not having a mom join them, graciously offered to assist with all those things that, well, no one thinks about but must get down. From organizing names tags to gift bags, assembling phot back drops to answering random questions, our Gentlemen Ushers, truly made the weekend run smoothly, adding that little touch that made the weekend a truly Sted event. Thank you! Indeed, many hands make light work!

On the weekend, a Steds mom said, “I cannot say thank you enough to all those who helped make this week for us. It was so fun. It’s sad to leave, but we leave with great memories of this amazing and special weekend!”

On the weekend, Fr. Ralph added, "I am in the debt to our Gentlemen Ushers. They truly made the weekend come together... making not only a success but also helping me to relax just a bit more. They are true Gentlemen!"

Celebrate...

Davey welcoming everyone at the Morris Inn...

... our Steds Moms, and celebrate we did! The celebration began on Friday night at the Smith Family ballroom of Morris Inn where moms were welcomed by Mom's Weekend Commissioner, Ryan Davey, to an evening soirèe. And after an evening of appetizers and wine, as moms departed, they received their weekend gift bags with various couture items from the weekend. The following day, after spending time with sons, their son's friends and their moms, moms and guests were welcomed to a celebration dinner at the Downes Club of Corbett Family Hall. Again, after appetizers and taking photos with the University photographer, moms and guests were to more great food and wine. Finally, after dinner, there was a performance by the Notre Dame Glee Club's Undertones. It truly was a memorable performance and evening. On the evening, Debbie Lis, Steds mom of Alec Lis '23 and special guest of Fr. Ralph, shared, "We couldn't ask for anything more! The thought and the attention to detail for this evening made me feel like a movie star."

Please use...

Welcome Moms

... Door Four. Yes, when Stedsmen hear to use Door Four of Corbett Family Hall, it can only mean one thing... it's Mom's Weekend! That's right. It's every Stedsman favorite weekend, Mom's Weekend, and so, let the fêting of Steds moms begin! Since dads have six weekends in the fall, Steds thought that moms should have one weekend for them and only them. That's right, dads are not invited though any grandma, sister, aunt, and cousin are welcome. One could say, it's a weekend for all the women in the lives of Stedsmen. This year, Ryan Davey, Steds sophomore, Bengal Bouts finalist, newly elected Hall President, and Mom's Weekend Commissioner, has created a thoughtful and memorable weekend with few surprises. More on that later. On the special weekend, Fr. Ralph shared, "I think we're ready. I just hope we made enough paella."

A Gentleman...

Dr. Sonn with D.A.D., Luke Guenthner...

… ponders medicine. Gathering in the historic, yet commodious, Gregorian Lounge, the Gentlemen listened to Dr. Kevin Sonn ’09, IU ’14. The favorite son of Washington State, Sonn imparted his wisdom and insight about medical school and being a medical doctor. This orthopedic surgeon and father of three shared all those things he wish he knew before graduating and beginning medical school. On the pondering, Ryan Davey, Steds sophomore, resident Pennsylvanian, and aspiring doctor, said, “ it was awesome to hear a real unfiltered perspective about medicine.

Hard Times Part...

Going for a stroll

... Two! Sadly for our Grubhub Starships, hard times are just get harder. Perhaps, it was a software glitch? If not, then a solar flare that affected geo tracking? Or maybe, it was just taking the wrong turn in Albuquerque? Who knows, but whatever it was, this Starship was seriously off course. Spotted on the north side of St. Mary's Lake, this Starship was seen coming down the walking path. What food delivery was it making? Well, it wasn't. During a walk around the lake, it was seen several times aimlessly circling the lake as if stuck in a real life Groundhog's Day. On the misguided Starship, an unnamed Stedsman shared, "I don't if it knows where it is going, but whenever it gets there, that I wouldn't want to eat that food."
