Out and...

Out and about...

... about. With classes over, Stedsmen are free to be out and about, and so, periodically, we'll hear where they are and what they're doing. What better place to start than with Fr. Ralph. Is he at Steds during the summer? Well, it looks like he's not. With the school year over, Fr. Ralph too has flown the proverbial coop, making a stop near California, not the state but the unincorporated village in Michigan, to see the headwaters of the St. Jospeh River. While its major claim to fame is being the river that gives the city of South Bend its name, but where does the St Jospeh River begin? On a day trip with Fr. Terry Ehrman, CSC, Fr. Ralph found its source at Lake Baw Beese near the town of Hillsdale. And surprisingly, the mighty St Joseph River was nothing more than a small, but beautiful, stream. On the discovery of the headwaters, Fr. Ralph said, "It was sight to behold, and I was reminded of the words of Everett, 'Large streams from little fountains flow, Tall oaks from little acorns grow.'"

... finding the headwaters of the St. Jospeh...

... getting up and close...

... and not falling in...

... but coming very close.
