Marini: Michelin star rated

... at Ed's? As the favorite campus residence hall eatery, Ed's, remains closed for the year, it is now open to any and all gentlemen who would like to have the proverbial old college go. Throughout the day, various smells of culinary delights- as well as near delights- waff down the first floor corridor. Recently, a curious but a most delicious smell, was smelled as Luca Marini was in the midst of whipping up "just a little something." Whatever it was, it smelled so fantastic, it made you wish you were invited to dinner! On what's on for dinner, Marini shared, "It's not always easy, but a Stedsman always makes it work. Pasta all’amatriciana for you all...next time!”

The biggest night...

Cook: Moving on up to the east side...

... at St. Ed's. Yes, the biggest night at St. Ed's is Room Picks Night. Every returning Stedsmen has the opportunity to pick his room for the upcoming year. How does this happen? Arm wrestling? Staring contests? Feats of strengths? No. Lottery pick numbers. Thanks to an algorithm at the Office of Housing, randomly generated lottery list are produced, giving each resident a number... and picks are based off that number. Rising seniors go first, followed by rising juniors, and then, last but not least, rising sophomores were at the end. Again, regardless of one's lottery number, everyone's a winner... because every room at Steds is better than any and all rooms elsewhere on campus! But... there had to be a gentleman who would get to go first in this excitement filled evening and this honor fell to James Cook. 

On being first to select a room, this rising senior, resident Californian, and new manager of Ed's for next year, shared, "When I learned that I would have the first room pick, I was honored and humbled. Participating in the hallowed rituals of room selection is a privilege that I will remember for all my life. 

This is an achievement that I could not have done alone; there are so many people that I would like to thank. I would like to thank not only God, but also Jesus, St. Edward, the big man himself, Fr. Ralph and the Hall staff for their fearless leadership, all those who donated for ND Day for their generosity, my fellow genteel Stedsmen, my house plants, and last but not least, my parents—Look ma! I made it! 

The experience was one that I will truly relish. I don’t want to be presumptuous and say that history was made, but I would certainly not be surprised if this year’s room picks was featured in all the textbooks."

What room did Cook choose? A room that the rector would love to make his office! Room 301, a single with windows on the east and south sides of the room... what more could you ask for?!

At the top...

Steds golfing legends

... again. Steds just can't, or rather won't, take a back seat. First, it was putting Sorin in its place during the inter-hall Olympics. Next, it was going at least ten furlongs ahead of every other residence hall on ND Day (now called St Edward's Day). Now, it's taking 1st place in the inter-hall golf scramble. The Steds foursome of Patrick Magner, Tommy Huber, Alex Morrison, and former President Peter Nichols, clinched fame, glory, and the trophy of the RecSports Golf Scramble. Still yet, they have become immortalized as Steds golfing legends. Later, at a ceremony devoid of any pomp and circumstance, each player will get the coveted Recsports champions' t-shirt... a treasure to say the least. On the win, Patrick Magner, Steds senior and now Recsports champion, shared, "The win was great but the camaraderie was even greater."

Saturday Squirrel.

One happy squirrel

Spring time weather is here, and people are out and about campus. While people are enjoying the sun and grass of the various quads, our furry friends are enjoying the times too but for a completely different reason. Why are they happy? Because with more people out and about, there are more opportunities for hand outs. And that is certainly what this squirrel is enjoying... a handout. On enjoying a free cashew, this squirrel non-verbaled, "Thank you!"

Celebrate they...

Balling it up outside...

... did. The Gentlemen did much celebrating this past Wednesday as they celebrated not one BUT two milestones- ND Day, also known as St Edward's Day, and the return of the Steds basketball hoop. With Steds Hall President Michael Lynch suspending classes by an executive order, just as Fr. John Jenkins had done, the Stedsmen had the entire day to celebrate. There were pick up basketball games outside with the Steds hoop which culminated in a tourney of sorts. If basketball was your cup of tea, then perhaps video game are. So, there was a Smash Cart tourney in the Flounge. And if basketball or Smash Cart were not your speed, then there was a corn hole tourney. Enveloping all of this was food- Chick Fil A regular and spicy sandwiches and Raising Cane's... topped off by an assortment of Insomnia Cookies. On the Steds celebrations inside and outside, Ben Theis, sophomore and Steds Hall Vice-President, said, "It was a good day to be a Gentleman of Notre Dame's oldest and most storied residence hall!"

... all while enjoying cookies... but there's more...

BUT THERE'S MORE...

Sadly, not every Gentleman could be present for the celebrations. Unfortunately, some Gentlemen were in quarantine and isolation is some far off, cush, but lonely, place. But these Gentlemen were not forgotten! On being remembered, a gentleman said, "We celebrated too. Spice was served to the Suites today, specifically Embassy Suites. St. Edward served this spice in the form of a beautiful Spicy Thai Chicken Bowl. This meal warmed me and provided me with an awakening of my senses that have become dormant in the isolation of quarantine Thanks Steds!"

Quarantine never looked so good... and there's more!
