Your Sunday picture...

... from Notre Dame. Here is a view of Mary, the Dome, and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart from the north side of St. Mary's Lake. The weather has been unseasonable cool and dry, making Move In Day and the first week of classes feel like it was fall. Enjoy the view, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

Saturday Squirrel.

Making friends

Our furry friends are back, and they ready to share campus with us once again. With everyone now back from summer break, campus squirrels are anxious to renew as well as make new friendships with students. Because that's the neighborly thing to do? No. Because it could lead to a handout! On meeting this furry friend on Library Quad, he non-verbaled, "Hey friend. Got any food?"

Stating the...

The design says it all

... obvious in a stylish way. They said it couldn't be done, but don't tell that to Zach Zywiec because he went and did it anyway. That's right Zywiec was able to capture the espirit de corp of Steds in the design for Welcome Week. How did he do it? Well, he's not talking, but everyone is talking about it. Suffice it to say, but this couture design will be seen again in the fall and spring apparel offerings. On wearing this talk of campus shirt, Evan Greer, Steds freshman and resident Marylander, shared, "I thought the shirt design was awesome, and I was a big fan of the “Kings of Campus” on the card.  I loved how it was a constant reminder to the other residence halls of the truth about Steds. I  know the shirt was a fan favorite from many other freshmen because I received compliments on the design every day of Welcome Weekend.  It was a great way to set the tone!"

Up, up, and...

Naval Aviator Peter Raus...

... away. That's right. It's up, up, and away from Peter Raus '23, who really graduated from Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Florida. A native Californian and former RA at Steds, Raus has been training since gradaution, and now, it's paid off as he received his wings, becoming a naval aviator. With family and friends surrounding him and dressed in his whites, Raus took the next step in his naval career and great blue yonder. On this momentous occasion, Raus stated, “Honored to wear the wings of gold and continue the legacy of those who paved the road before me!”

Fr. Ralph said, "Congratulations, and I hope Raus has a cool call sign!"

Enter...

Something new, something old: Charlie Mathes

... the new assistant rector! Yes, Steds has a new assistant rector, AR, this year, Charlie Mathes, who is certainly new but also old all at the same time. New, since, well, he's a new resident and member of Hall Staff, but at the same time old as he's from a family with a long history at St. Ed's. That's right... Charlie Mathes is the brother of Jay and Parker Mathes. A graduate of Clemson, this Georgian, like his brothers, is now donning the blue and gold as well as living in the shadow of the Dome in the oldest and most storied residence hall at Notre Dame. Mathes will be completing his Master of Engineering degree this year as well as joining the Steds Hall Staff for all the adventures that lie ahead in this new academic year. On Mathes' arrival, Fr. Ralph said, "Finally, the last Mathes has arrived!"
