Disaster strikes...

Not going up or down: the Steds Main Staircase

... again! Like the classic one, two punch in boxing, Steds has been hit by yet another disaster. What now? The ENTIRE main staircase has been closed. The main thoroughfare of Steds, the Main Staircase has been shutdown for the foreseeable future as upgrades are made. What upgrades? A new handle rail has been added and the existing bannister and rail have been raised, preventing falls and such. If losing the limited air conditioning was not bad enough, this inconvenience just adds to the overall hurt.

On the disaster, Will Grannis, Steds junior and resident Virginian, shared, "At the heart of the heart of Notre Dame oldest and most storied residence hall lies the glorious and historic St Edward’s Hall Main Staircase. The pilgrims traveling up and down its haughty heights can reverently slap with all their might the sign that hangs above the first-floor lintel (Play Like a Champion Today), can listen in on the raucous chatter from the Gregorian Lounge as they round the second floor, can walk quickly past the third floor, like passing jail in Monopoly, so as to rejoice at having reached the pinnacle of Fr. Sorin’s creation, the fourth floor of Steds. Over the past few days; however, the staircase has been impassable due to construction. This gross inconvenience serves as a poignant reminder that even the most exquisite of designs can be brought to its knees by innovation, leaving the pilgrims to travel the many corridors of inconvenience which remain."

But there's more...

Once again, Notre Dame's favorite podcast, In The Red Room, makes its return, bringing you all the happenings and interesting stories from Notre Dame's oldest and most storied residence hall, St. Edward's. What stories are being told? Well, you'll just have to listen!
