What is the...

Go take a walk...

... old abandon Douglas road? Still, where is it? Some readers have been asking these questions as the road is referred to in several postings. Back in the day, Douglas Road was a single lane road on the very north end of campus that went east/west. With increasing amounts of traffic on the small road, the University asked the city of South Bend if the road could be moved even further north than its current location. The University would pay for the moving of the road as well as its expansion to dual lanes all so that more University property would be contiguous with campus as well as help with traffic patterns on game days. The city had no plans to do anything and were more than happy to let Notre Dame redesign Douglas Road. But what happened to the old Douglas Road? It was abandoned. Nature is taking over once again, and wildlife abounds along it. It is a great walk. On the old abandon Douglas Road, Fr. Ralph said, "Abandon, yes, but it's loved now more than ever!"

... and enjoy the silence.
