The atmosphere...

Kalicak: A man with a lot of hair and a mission

... is electric. Yes, the atmosphere at Steds is simply electric as spirits are running high among those preparing for Mullets Against Malaria. Before heading to the forward command center, Commander in Chief Matt Verdeschi imparted edifying words that only rallied the morale and galvanized the determination of those heading off to the frontlines. One young soldier, whose spirit and determination are running so high he thinks he can take on malaria himself, is Jack Kalicak. Freshman and Floridian, Kalicak is all in for this fight against the despicable and deplorable enemy, malaria. When we caught up with brave young man and his mane of hair, here's what Jack had to say.

St. Ed:  You could have of stayed at home front, but you didn’t. what moved you to join the fight?

Kalicak: I joined the fight because I saw a cause worth fighting for and a group of brothers to fight alongside until the end.

St. Ed: So, you’re getting a mullet. What do you want your mullet to convey to the non-mulleted masses?

Kalicak: I want my mullet to convey my unity with St. Edwards hall and raise awareness for the pressing issue that Malaria is… as well as back off malaria!

St. Ed: On the eve of battle, are you and the others getting a little nervous about getting mullets and heading off to the front?

Kalicak: It’s been almost SIX months of growth so leaving the locks behind is somber. However,  together I think we can be brave and in the process help stomp out malaria.  I hate malaria.

St. Ed: I don’t want you to divulge too much here and help the enemy, but how are we going to beat the malaria?

Kalicak: We're going inside of malaria. We're going outside of malaria-- inside of malaria! outside of malaria! -- and when we get them on the run once, we're going to keep malaria on the run. And we're not going to pass unless their secondary comes up too close. But don't forget, men -- we're gonna get malaria on the run, we're gonna go, go, go, go! -- and we aren't going to stop until we go over that goal line! And don't forget, men -- today is the day we're gonna win. They can't lick us -- and that's how it goes... The first platoon men -- go in there and fight, fight, fight, fight, fight! What do you say, men!

St. Ed: That sounds really familiar, and I like it. Sounds like a real plan for victory. Good luck!

As our brave boys fight malaria, may their courage move us to join them and do our part in this battle. Let's give it to malaria, and bring our boys- and their hairstyles- back!
