A.J. (in sunglass) taking care of a "wayward boy" of the Hall
...we have a new assistant rector! Arturo Tablada (A.J.) has recently accepted the offer to be the new Assistant Rector of St. Edward's. Starting this fall semester, A.J. will replace Jon Heintz, taking on his responsibilities and duties, ultimately ushering in a renaissance of sorts with Heintz out of the way. What's A.J. planning to do when he assumes his new role? Here's what he had to say when I caught up with him...
St. Ed: What moved you to take on the mantle of assistant rector at St. Edward’s?
A.J.: My love for my Sted's home, the valuable experience I’ve had as a Resident Assistant this year, and having the opportunity to spend more time with the Gentlemen as we bring out the best in each other.
St. Ed: What do you hope to accomplish during your tenure?
A.J.: I hope to continue building community within St. Ed’s in a variety of ways. First, I look forward to being able to lead "Men After Church" with my fellow AR, Grant, and provide an environment where we, in St. Ed’s, can grow in faith as Christian men in this Notre Dame community. Second, I also hope to foster lifelong friendships between the Gents and help them realize the blessing of living in this Hall. Finally, last but not least, I hope to successfully complete my Master’s degree and set the foundation for accomplishing my dream of starting my own company.
St. Ed: When you are not assistant rectoring, what will you be doing?
A.J.: Watching Heat games, working a bit on my DJ’ing abilities, and enjoying the year long sunshine we have up here in South Bend by taking long walks around the lakes.
St. Ed: Do you watch the History Channel’s “Vikings?”
A.J.: No, but I may consider watching if you, St. Ed, can promise me that it’s indeed better than 60 Minutes.
Good luck A.J.!
