Toups and his Mud Flap: going or staying?

... or should I go? This famous refrain from The Clash's hit in 1981 seems to be in the air about Steds. Now, we're not talking about any of Gentlemen thinking of leaving Steds and transferring to another residence hall. No, perish the thought! Yesterday, General Kyle Mackey gave the order for all Steds forces to de-mullet as campaign objectives had be achieved. While many Stedsmen quickly headed over the University hairstylists at LaFortune, some were reticent to comply with order, quietly pondering “Do I get it cut… or should I let it grow?” One such conflicted Stedsman is freshman and resident Louisianan, Paul Toups, who is debating what to do with his “Louisianan Mud Flap.” On debating  what to do, Toups shared, “I just don't know what to do!"

VM DAY!

President Kelly and General Mackey: A winning team

VICTORY! We have victory in our battle against malaria! The power of Steds mullets could not be repelled, and the enemy is now on the run. With the nets that will be purchased through donations, the enemy will cede more territory, and soon, malaria will have no place to hide. So, even though the boys are returning home, our fight is not over, the war will go. Indeed, the enemy will see our brave boys and their powerful, magnificent mullets again! But for now, it’s back to the Steds barracks for some R&R and a haircut!

Earlier this afternoon, while onlookers present, President Thomas Kelly and Vice President Clinton Daly received in the Gregorian Lounge the Steds Mullet Commander, Kyle Mackey, giving Mackey the order to cease operations and de-mullet. And as a sign of the Hall's gratitude, Mackey was promoted to the rank of general. On the successful campaign, President Kelly shared, "Another successful year of Mullets Against Malaria. I want to thank General Kyle Mackey for devising, organizing, and executing a successful campaign, resulting in this triumphant day. It's a day that all Stedsmen can be proud of. Also, we are appreciative of all those who assisted in this victory, our Alumni and Steds family and friends for helping us reach our fundraising goal. Let the lettuce fly!" 

We THANK those who gave their follicles for the fight, but we also must give thanks to all those from who joined us in this fight, monitoring our progress, buoying our spirits, making donations, all of which made this campaign a GREAT SUCCESS, raising, in less than a week, $10,100! Whether or not we donned a mullet, today's victory is something that we can all be proud of and celebrate.

A portrait...

Bravery on display...

... of bravery. Enjoying some leave time from the front, our brave Gentlemen are enjoying some much needed R&R. Believe it or not, sporting mullets is not a walk in the park. It's demanding. And it's even more demanding and grueling for young Rylan Cooney who carries, willingly and joyfully, what many consider to be our secret weapon in this battle, the reverse mullet, the Skullet. Indeed, these courage young  men need a break, but as they got one, some gathered to take a picture outside Washington Hall on the south side of St. Edward's Park. On seeing the this brave Gentlemen, a passer-by was heard quietly saying, "I wish I could be like them."

The man behind...

PTK: Always leading...

... the mullet. Sometimes we forget, that behind that powerful and awesome mullet, is a gentleman, who like Winston Churchill, "likes the smell of powder but hates war." Here is a one of those brave gentleman, who for King and Hall, got a mullet and went off to the front lines to battle the enemy with every follicle of his being, President Thomas Kelly (PTK). Yes, even the President, the Commander and Chief of St. Edward's, is doing his part in this war. Indeed, there is NO leading from the rear here because he too heard the call to take a stand against this despised enemy. Taking leave of his duties and joining his captain and fellow Stedsmen at the front, PTK got in the proverbial trenches. Again,  he did so not because he had to but because he wanted to. After receiving his mullet, our President declared, "It was nothing short of a miracle, how a flock of Bald Eagles soared past La Fortune and the Dome when we got our mullets. Let be known that these mullets were skillfully and brilliantly carved in the name of freedom. It’s FOR THE KIDS!"

The man behind...

"M Squared": Machado and Mullet...

... the mullet. Sometimes we forget, that behind that powerful and awesome mullet, is a gentleman, who like Winston Churchill, "likes the smell of powder but hates war." Here is a one of those brave gentleman, who for King and Hall, got a mullet and went off to the front lines to battle the enemy with every follicle of his being, Aidan Machado. Yes, this sophomore, hearing the call to take a stand against a cruel enemy, dropped his books and took leave from his studies. Not because he had to but because he wanted to. After receiving his mullet, this resident Californian of St. Ed's, gave an insight as to what he hoped his follicles would accomplish in this war. On donning a mullet, Machado shared, "It's a privilege- one that I do not take lightly- to sport a mullet. We dawn the iconic hairstyle not to draw attention to ourselves but rather to our righteous cause against malaria, and okay, to the best hall on campus too.”
