Campbell and his creation

... to nowhere. Yes, it may be a bridge to nowhere, but it did lead to success. Pat Campbell, Steds RA and mechanical engineering student, build a metal bridge for his art class. Now, this wasn't any ordinary bridge for an art class at Notre Dame as the success of Campbell's bridge building would be determined by its ability to support weight... and a lot of it. To test the design and integrity of Campbell's creation, students were asked to stand on it. First, a petite student stood on the bridge, and it did not break. Next, Campbell stood on his bridge without it breaking. Then, a football player took a turn, standing on it without it breaking. Finally, the petite student, Campbell, and the football player all stood together on the bridge without it breaking. Suffice it to say, mission accomplished... tasteful design and functional! On his bridge to nowhere, Campbell stated, “The Romans were the original master builders of the creations we call bridges. Building on their knowledge, I have constructed, a piece that is the epitome of engineering,  a metal bridge, not even for an engineering class, but for an art class. It held three students, but could have held even more. If only we could replicate this and make it a part of a grand entrance for St.Ed's... then I too could be a master builder in the line of the ancients!"
