WE WON AGAIN!

A Steds united, seniors and freshmen, together...

If winning the tackle football championship wasn't enough, then you're in luck because there was more. Six hours before the decisive win against Siegfried Stanford, Steds had another championship game on the line, the RecSports Inter-Hall Flag Football Championship. In an all Steds game, it was brother against brother as Steds freshmen were pitted against Steds seniors for a second time. Brother against brother, freshman against senior, Steds versus Bmo, it all unfolded on the ND football stadium. The game saw the underdog seniors take an early lead over the freshmen, a lead that they never gave up. Chippy at times, the freshmen failed to get a consistent and sustained momentum, and sadly, they went down against the seniors by a score of 18 to 6. Still, it was a banner day for Steds, seeing our seniors have their day and looking forward to the future flag football careers of our freshmen.

On the win, Steds seniors,

Kyle Rubin, Hall Apparel Commissioner, shared, "It was a great day for the underdog yesterday, as the Steds seniors really proved that defense and grit win championships. It was an incredible experience to play in Notre Dame stadium, and made even better by winning a shirt,”

Mike Giugliano, former Hall Vice President, said, "It was an exciting rematch between two teams with a rivalry of the likes never before seen in B-league flag football. Fortunately, our team (St. Ed’s BMO) came out on top. All the blood, sweat and tears paid off, and we are happy with the outcome,"

Brendan Moriarty, former Hall Vice President and team name sake, added, “Going into the game, we knew we would have a tough test against a deep freshman team, but in the end, experience payed off. Gutsy performances by Joe Sweilem and Henry Bergstrom really paved the way to our decisive win. True grit was on display, as CJ payed the ultimate price with a pulled hamstring late in the second quarter. For many of us, this might have been our last chance to win an inter-hall championship. It’s nice to go off into the sunset with a win like that.”

Peter Nichols, former Hall President, added, "It was the weekend of the alpha and the omega — the beginning and the end. Of course the senior year tradition is to go on the field after the game to get one last memory at ND stadium. Yet, it was a strategic moment of mental preparation for our huge performance at the stadium Sunday. Sure, we may have been at the end of our peak athletic careers, but no team whether steds brothers nor the Alabama Crimson Tide were outlasting us during our final moment in the stadium. All I can say — there was a magic in the air in the house Rockne built.  Dare I now call it, the house that MVP Joe Sweilem rebuilt. And now for some icy hot and Advil for the next few days..."

On the loss, Steds freshmen,

Rhett, Bianchi said, "Every kid who’s ever put on a helmet for Pop Warner or thrown a football out in the back yard knows: playing where the greats like Montana, Bettis, and Hornung began their storied careers is merely a fantasy. While the outcome wasn’t what our team had envisioned, I truly believe there is absolutely no greater experience than walking out of the tunnel and sensing the aura of the timeless tradition that flows from every brick in Notre Dame stadium. And to do it when you’re only a freshman, well you might as well pack up now, because I don’t know how it could possibly get much better than that."

John Gallagher, team coach, said, “We were pretty disappointed with our performance, and it’s definitely a tough pill to swallow after such an incredible year. The journey’s not over though - we’ll be back in that stadium soon enough, I can guarantee you that. The good news is that I don’t expect to lose any players to the draft or transfer portal this offseason, so we’ll have an experienced group out there next year."
