Patterson on the right.
Chris
Patterson, Steds senior and Navy ROTC submariner, is nearing the end of his
matriculation at Notre Dame. The soon to be Ensign Patterson graciously
“surfaced” to share with us his “senior” insights. It may be just a bunch of
flotsam, but here’s what Patterson had to share…
St.Ed:
What are you looking forward to in this your last semester?
Patterson:
Quad golf. Once it gets warm, look out for (poorly aimed) flying tennis balls.
St.Ed:
What is one of your favorite memories of Steds?
Patterson:
The first time AJ got Closs with his beard.
St.Ed:
What do you think the geopolitical ramifications are from the rising tensions
over the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea?
Patterson:
The Philippines clearly have the moral high ground here. If the Chinese (read:
commies) think they have a claim just because they were there 700 years ago
(maybe) they should probably have a look at what America's got right off the
coast. (Hint: It's a good healthy dose of freedom.) As I always say, better dead
than red.
St.Ed:
What advice would you have for those following in your wake?
Patterson:
The Navy generally frowns upon following submarines, and so, I wouldn't
recommend it. Still, enjoy all the time you've got here at Notre Dame. Don't be
too quick to move off campus!
Next year, Patterson will
be off to the Navy’s “nuclear power school” in Charleston, SC, getting ready to
hunt Red October somewhere underwater.
Good luck and anchors away Ensign Patterson!
