Even though Fr. Sorin did not want this, it is only fitting, for without him, none of this would be! Fr. Sorin, we are always in your debt. Requiescat in pace!
... you happen to see on campus. While campus always like pristine, sometimes, just sometimes, you happen to see something out of place or even something completely out of place. That was the case recently as those making their morning commute to DeBart and Nieuwland Hall saw this sight. Was it a broken water main? Did someone hit a fire hydrant with an electric scooter? Well, as it wasn't reported in the Observer nor was it on the nightly news, we'll just never know. Still, it was a sight to see. On seeing this water spout between La Fortune and Crowley Hall, an unnamed Stedsman said, "I kinda like it. It's like we have our own Old Faithful."
... in the laundry room? Yes. What is the word in laundry room about the recent news of the Clemson quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, testing positive for the Covid before next week's big game HERE at Notre Dame? On the news, Michael Lynch, Steds Senator and resident Californian, said, "The word in the laundry room is that Clemson just washed away their chance of a win."
BUT...
...what is the word in the 3rd floor hallway? Yes. What is the word in 3rd floor hallway about the recent news of the Clemson quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, testing positive for the Covid? On the news, Pete McKeon, Steds 3rd floor AR and 3rd year law student, shared, "I believe it was Ben Franklin who said: “There are 4 universal truths: 1) death, 2) taxes, 3) Chick fil a is closed on Sundays, and 4) Trevor Lawrence uses an inordinate amount of conditioner. But it turns out all the conditioner in the world couldn’t protect him from the Covid. Go Irish!”
... while Johnny Welsch, Steds RA and resident Wisconsinite, added, "'Lawrence lost to Irish' and 'Lawrence got the covid' both have 19 letters and at this point I think we can begin to see the stars aligning for our football team."
... have done it without YOU! Thanks to ALL who helped ensure this "make up" ND Day was a success! Regardless of where we finished, we couldn't have done it without you. Yes, without you and your generosity the oldest and most storied residence hall would become, well, just older and less storied. What good is that? But thanks to YOU, the stories will continue on, and as they do, you can read all about them here at the Gentlemen's Monthly. Again, THANK YOU for your support yesterday, and remember ND DAY 2021, with its $1 million challenge pot, will be in April of next year. Mark your calendar, and I am not April fooling! On finishing in the top ten for ND Day 2020, Fr. Ralph shared, "We are humbled. For our small hall to finish as we did is a testament to the love for this special place and its Gentlemen. And when you have that, how can you lose? Now and always, for the kids!"
... too late!!! That's correct! It's NOT too late to help Steds in this "make up" ND Day 2020. While there will be the usual ND Day in the spring of 2021, this ND Day is a make up for the one that was canceled last April because of the Covid. Whether it is a make up or the real thing, ND Day plays a huge role keeping the oldest and most storied residence hall at the Notre Dame on the move. And it's not out of greed that we ask for your help and that of anyone else you know.... rather we do it out of love for the kids. Yes, you guessed it. At Steds, we do for the kids! On there still being time for you to help Steds this make up ND Day, Matt Verdeschi, Steds sophomore, said, "Let's do for the kids!" Indeed... I couldn't have said it any better than that!

... with the Steds Hall President. Peter Nichols, Steds President (above left), took some time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions about the big day, ND Day 2020. Today is the "make up" ND Day for the one originally scheduled in April but was postponed due to the Covid. REMEMBER there will be another ND Day in spring 2021.
While the format and rules have changed AND, again, another ND Day is planned for the spring of 2021, Steds is not shying away from today. What better way to understand what the Gentlemen are doing for this unique and important day than going right to the top. When we did with his faithful Vice President, Brendan Moriarty (above right), by his side, here is what the President had to share...
St. Ed: Is today, ND Day, a really important day for Steds?
Nichols: ND Day is the most important day of the year for St. Ed's. Like children on Christmas morning, the men of St. Edward's hall stay up all night on ND Day eve anticipating all the great gifts that ND Day funds will bring. A ticket for yacht dance? A deep fryer for "Ed's Eatery"? A new recliner for the lounge? ND Day makes the ideas come to life!
St. Ed: Steds has done very well in past ND Days, why do you think that is the case?
Nichols: Some naysayers may claim St. Ed's is too small... however, that is our strength. The St. Edward's community and network is stronger than any other halls' on campus. We would never be able to succeed in ND Day if not for our family, friends, and residents who put in the extra mile to make this a very special place.
St. Ed: As Hall President, what is administration hoping to achieve on ND Day?
Nichols: The past St. Ed's administrations have set the bar very high for this year's ND Day. This year, I hope St. Ed's sits on top of the residence halls once again, as it is only natural. But, none of this will be possible without your help! VOTE St. Ed's and spread the word!
