Respiting with Insomnia: King, Bacall, and Jones

... that's finals could be so sweet?! Of course, after finishing a final, a sense of quiet euphoria and calming relief may come over the test taker, giving a sense of bliss, but whatever the passing feeling may be, there's more to had. Well, at least at St Ed's there is. At the conclusion of the first day of finals,  Insomnia Cookies were served in the Flounge to delight of many, including the gluten free! Indeed, there were smiles on many a face as our final takers had to choose from double chocolate chunk to "the classic" with M@M's, from snickerdoodle to white chocolate macadamia nut. With so many choices, it all seemed like a multiple choice test! On completing his first day of finals and enjoying a gourmet cookies, Calvin Bacall, freshman and resident Michigander, shared, “Few sensations rival the delight experienced when indulging in Insomnia Cookies following the first day of examinations!”

Fast friends: Casey and Carson...

... the kids! Everyone's favorite Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Mr. Carson, spent the weekend at Steds for the kids! Yes, for the kids. Instead of lounging at home, Mr. Carson made the trek to Steds to be with the kids, doing what he could do to lighten the anxiety and apprehension of the Gentlemen. If it was allowing them to have a sit down with him, petting him, then Mr. Carson was all for it. If it was going on a walk with them, then Mr. Carson was all for it. If it was just hanging out in the Gregorian Lounge, then, you guessed it, Mr. Carson was all for it. Whatever he could do to help give the Gentlemen a break from studying and keep things positive, well, that was Mr. Carson's mission. One Gentleman, Ryan Casey, took Mr. Carson up on his offer and went on a morning walk with him. On the having Mr. Carson in the Hall during Study Days, Casey shared, "Having a dog in the Hall is a good way to relieve your mind of finals and uplift spirits!”

Saturday squirrel.

Doing a bit of gardening 

Our furry friends are back. With spring warming up, our furry friends are out and about doing whatever they do. Sometimes you catch them doing, well, you don't what they are doing. And that was case recently behind St. Ed's as this squirrel was tending to the undergrowth. Searching for something, this squirrel was only visible by his tail which protruded from the green undergrowth. What was he looking for? Who knows. But whatever he was doing, he was doing with great rigor and determination. On being spotted in the green undergrowth, this squirrel non-verbaled, well, nothing because he did not know he had been spotted!

Our Seniors!

… Senior Send Off Day. Of course, our seniors don't want to think how the end coming quickly, but nevertheless, they need to be feted and honored. And they were at Plaza St. Edward, the Steds patio, on Friday afternoon. Immediately following the hall photo on the south side of the hall, the Gentlemen moved to the north side where, at the Steds basketball court, a food truck was waiting for them. No fighting long lines at the NDH tonight! And don't worry. The guests of honor, our seniors, were given priority in the line. With games of basketball and corn hole, and other games, our seniors were treated to a special Study Days meal. Still, our seniors were given one of their senior gifts from the Hall, the Steds graduation cords. The Steds cords, golden yellow and green, will be worn on Graduation Day, distinguishing our Gentlemen who have graduated from Steds, also know as "Gentlemen U." On the Senior Send Off Day, Ryan Johnson, Steds senior and resident Georgian, shared, "Every year I have watched these seniors be honored at the end of the semester and wondered what that feels like. Well now it has been my turn and it is a bittersweet moment. I am sad to be leaving but happy for all the friends and memories I have made in St. Ed's and glad to always have a place I am welcome at Notre Dame!"

After winning...

We're all winners here

... winning ND Day, Steds does to go to Disney World. No! We go on the Yacht Dance, of course! Oddly enough, the a week after ND Day was held was the last day of classes... AND Yacht Dance Day. Chance? I think not! Nor was the great weather! It was perfect for a cruise, smooth sailing for one hundred and fifty Stedsmen and their dates. The yacht shoved off on time, 11:30pm, and the dancing kicked off with the 90's classic, "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems." After sailing up and down the lake, the yacht returned to port at 2am with many tired dancers. On the attending the Yacht Dance, an unnamed date of a Stedsman, said, "I am a winner too! I got ask to the Yacht Dance!"
