Vote early...

Rauch (seated) turns away an ineligible voter...

... and vote often is usually the line one hears when speaking of voting in Chicago. But not on this Gentleman's watch. That's right. There was no "voting often' with Election Coordinator Louis Rauch, who despite being from Chicagoland, ran what had to be one the cleanest, fairest, and most organized elections at Steds for some time. At the direction of the current administration, paper balloting was reintroduced, foregoing the impersonal, electronic voting, and tapped the young Rauch to make it all happen. In the end, Rauch delivered, and once again, democracy triumphed at Notre Dame's oldest residence hall. On overseeing the recent Hall election, Rauch said, “The St. Edward's Hall election is an important event, arguably as important as the U.S. presidential election.  President Mike and I decided that in person voting was the best way to hold this momentous occasion.  Voter turnout was through the roof at 81% for the dorm with fourth floor having an impressive 94% of residents voting.”

During Spring Break, In the Red Room is on hiatus. But don't worry, it will be back next week!

It was a magnificent day with a beautiful blue sky with high, wispy cirrus clouds. With the permacloud retreating, it means spring is around the corner. Don't cry for me... really.

With the students out on Spring Break, our furry friends find themselves once again holding down the fort. Don't feel sorry for them because they is old shoe for them. They love it. Really. When we are gone, the bikes, motorized scooter, walkers, commotion, and so much more disappears, leaving a tranquil, even bucolic, scene. On students being on Spring Break, this squirrel enjoying a nut on God Quad, said, "Good, and now, we have peace."

Rolled out: Stedsmen in Paris

... on and out! That’s right, out!  Why? Because Friday marks the start of Spring Break, and whether our Stedsmen are headed home or to warmer clim and sunshine, may it be restful and relaxing. Without any doubt, our Gentlemen need a break from books, papers and exams, and the South Bend perma-cloud. Wherever they go and whatever they do, may our Gentlemen come back rested, tanned and ready to finish the school year. On the start of Spring Break, Fr. Ralph said, "I love all of you, but I don't want to see any of you right now. But give me a week, and I am sure that will change. Break well."

So they wished, so they have: a peloton...

... Steds. Get out of the way because the rolling on of Steds cannot be stopped! What's rolling on now? The Steds peloton. By popular demand, and thanks to Notre Dame Day funds, Project Refresh, has secured what everyone wanted but thought impossible for our gym, a peloton. Again, under the direction of Paddy Foss, Steds AR, and the help of Vice President Ben Theis, a peloton is now available for a spin in the gym, allowing for a great cardio workout as well as the gainz train to continue on. On the new peloton, Theis shared, “With Spring Break and more importantly Yacht Dance right around the corner, we wanted to give the Gentlemen every tool they needed to be at their best!”

Roll on Miller!

... Steds! Steds keep rolling on... both on and off the field, court and rink. Former Stedsman and now medical student, Chase Miller '21, is rolling, cycling, across the country in a four thousand plus mile ride to draw attention to as well as raise funds for young adults suffering from cancer. Again, this is no small feat, and Miller needs our help to only not make the trip itself but also make a difference in the lives of those battling cancer. To hear from Miller himself on this epic trip, click HERE. On Miller's trip, Fr. Ralph said, "I haven't ridden a bicycle across our great country, and I don't think that I ever will. But, without any doubt, I will join him in this fight! Cancer, we're coming for you!"

Steds: Playing for keeps...

... Steds! Like our basketball team, the Steds Hockey team had a slow start to the season, but after a bit of retooling and reforming, they become a winning hockey machine. Securing a place in the RecSports Hockey Playoffs, the Steds squad faced off against the combined power of Duncan and Fisher Hall in first round action. Playing for keeps, Steds played a game that stressed fundaments, allowing it to walk away with 5 to 2 victory. History was made! Not only was it the first Steds playoff win but also the first three consecutive wins ever! This gritty team continues, week in and week out, to tap the strength of its roster, those with talent and those with, well, spirit, and build momentum to capture a "w." And in the first playoff game, there were standouts as sophomore Davis Flusche scored three goals and senior Kyle Rubin added two more in what can only be described as a dominant showing and convincing win. On scoring three goals, Flusche said, “It’s great when you’ve got a team full of selfless guys who want to set each other up to score. I happened to be the on the receiving end of that selflessness last game.”

Still yet, hockey player and ND Football player, Axel Raarup, added, "I find it only fitting that on the 42nd anniversary of the Miracle On Ice where America’s boys, much like our Steds-Alumni team full of college age lads, overtook the USSR juggernaut, and our Steds boys pounded the notorious Duncan/ Fisher/ Zahm team into submission with a 5-2 victory. But there is no continuum of success; we must return with equal and greater vigor for this Wednesdays matchup against Stanford/ Knott where we look to triumph over the team we lost in a heartbreaker of a season opener one month ago. Wednesday, 9:10pm on the varsity ice at Compton - be there! Roll Steds!”
