... his pay. That's what we hear in the gospels, and it was lived out after this Sunday's Hall Mass. Thanks to some special people, who love Steds and its Gentlemen, Amish chocolate chip cookies were served, in a Covid free way of course, after Mass. How do the Amish make their cookies taste so delicious? They are not telling, but the Gentlemen know first hand how crazy good they are. Thank you to our donors! Still, it was Patrick Sansone's, Steds senior and Virginian, lucky day. Filling in for Gavin Shust, who was unable to play the piano at Mass, Sansone got not only the Stedsmen giving twice the praising by singing but also a tasty treat for his labors at the piano. On having unexpected Amish treats, Sansone delightfully shared, "The Amish cookies were grrrrrrreat (emulating my favorite cereal mascot, Tony the Tiger)!"
... playing badminton in the Park? Yes. In a pandemic, when you have an unexpected bye weekend in college football, that's what you do. And boy, the shuttlecocks were flying. Some upperclassmen thought a few of the younger guys had decided to get a head start on training for the Hall's Shuttlecock Showdown, a Founder's Week favorite, but that was not the case. Instead of training for one of Notre Dame's most coveted residence hall sports tourney- and Steds has the most of them with two, the fourth floor RAs, Ben Cook and Joshua Chapple, thought that they would introduce the freshmen to this gentlemanly sport. Setting up several badminton nets in St. Edward's Park, the players took their instructions, then their positions, and next, played away. Even though it was friendly and in many respects a tutorial, competitive spirits surfaced, and suddenly, it got real... especially when some freshmen showed some advanced techniques, revealing a familiarity with the sport. Before they knew it, Cook and Chapple were being schooled by their pupils. In the end, seniority gave way to youth as freshmen, AJ Vanchieri and James Longhurst, won the day in the Park.
On their loss, Cook was a gracious loser saying, "It was an honor and a privilege to organize such a successful event. My first round elimination only proves my dedication to the encouragement and support I have for the freshmen I serve. Any higher on the leaderboard could have aroused suspicion that this was merely a ploy to display my own physical prowess." And not far behind Cook, Chapple shared similar sentiments saying, "I don’t understand how the talent gets better and better ever year."
... but they were savage on the field of play.
... from Notre Dame. Here's a fall view of the path through the walnut grove on the northeast end of campus. At one time, the path connected campus with what used to be married and family housing. But with that now demolished, it now connects new off campus apartments. Whatever you may be walking from walking or going to, this path is always beautiful no matter what the season may be. Enjoy, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

... in so little time. With the football game against Wake Forest on hold, Hall Government sprang into action to provide some entertainment for the disappointed Gentlemen. What did the Hall Government think of doing to buoy the spirits of the Hall? Food... and making it a contest. So, after everyone had enjoyed Buffalo Wild Wings and the various special sauces on the Steds Patio, a good old fashion hot dog eating contest was held. With hot dogs from Dairy Queen, had Stedsmen from all class levels face off against each other for the glory of being crowned the Hall's hot dog eating champion. And who would not want that on their resumé?! In the end, two freshmen, Ryan Johnson and Dan McGuire, and one senior Carson Abertoli were in the championship. Close call, with some spilt decisions, but many called Abertoli the winner. On the win, Abertoli said, "The competition from fellow Stedsmen was tough, but ultimately, my hungry appetite lead me to victory. It was quite a challenge, but we all had a good time!"

... getting cooler! Recently, Isabella and Mathias Wollen of Nebraska received Steds face masks to stay safe. But an unexpected side effect has been that their "level of coolness" has increased. It's really not a surprise. Steds tends to have that effect on people. There's absolutely no question what face masks these kids will be wearing when they go to St. Robert Bellarmine Grade School. Thanks to the Brendan Morarity's couture Steds mask these cool kids will catch the attention of others and be the envy of the playground. On when they would wear their Steds face masks, Isabella and Mathias said together, without hesitation, "EVERY DAY!"
