The man with...

Cooney: A portrait of bravery...

... the skullet! While mullets is general issue for the war, one Gentleman, Rylan Cooney, is not. Why? Because Cooney wears the skullet. Now, some of you might be wondering what is a skullet? Don't you mean mullet? No, I mean skullet, and it is a reverse mullet. Instead of shaving the hair on the sides of the head as with the mullet, the skullet leaves the hair on the sides of the head long while shaving the hair on top of the head right down to the scalp. It is a style that one and only one Gentleman can wear in this epic battle. And the one does has sacrificed everything for the cause and in so doing, he rallies his fellow Gentlemen in way that no one else can do. He's is standard bearer, the vanguard, of this campaign, leading us all unto victory. Suffice it to say, heavy is the head that wears the skullet in this war! On wearing the skullet, Cooney declared, "I am honored to carry this mantle of responsibility, to wear the Steds skullet, furthering its legacy in fighting malaria!"

Good luck to Cooney and our brave boys!

The man behind...

Littlefield and his mullet

... the mullet. Sometimes we forget, that behind that powerful and awesome mullet, is a gentleman, who like Winston Churchill, "likes the smell of powder but hates war." Here is a one of those brave gentleman, who for King and Hall, got a mullet and went off to the front lines to battle the enemy with every follicle of his being, Quinn Littlefield. Yes, this DJ stopped dropping beats and took leave from his mixing board to get a mullet. Not because he had to but rather because he wanted to. After receiving his mullet, this resident of Martha's Vineyard and sophomore of St. Ed's, gave an insight as to what he hoped his follicles would accomplish in this war... and that is instilling fear in the enemy. On donning a mullet, Littlefield said, "Malaria has never been so terrified of this party in the back!"

Good luck to Littlefield and our brave boys!

To war!

This morning, at the direction of the President, Tommy Kelly, a declaration of war was declared against plasmodium falciparum... also known as malaria. The war will be demanding and the price for victory will not be cheap. The Gentlemen know this full well, yet they are willing to risk everything and head off to the front lines for King and Hall. Their bravery makes the foe tremble and friends take heart. Tonight, at University Hairstyle in LaFortune, there was no shortage of courage as many young men received their mullet and marching orders. On seeing the courage of so many young men, Fr. Ralph said, "I only wish I was like them... with more follicles to give!"

Good luck to Mackey and our brave boys!

Pulling out...

... all the stops. Yes, the Stedsmen are pulling out any and all stops as they prepare for the battle against their sworn enemy, malaria. On the eve of heading off to war, every Stedsmen is doing his duty to King and Hall to ensure a victory for the kids and a pounding for malaria. And when say everyone is doing everything they can to give Steds the advantage in this war, I really do mean it. On a recent trip to the staff at Gordon Food Service (GFS) gave an unsolicited donation, hoping to impart some encouragement to our brave boys. On having authentic Indianan popcorn in Flounge, Rhett Bianchi, Steds senior, resident Illinoisan, and soon to be a "mulleted" Stedsman, shared, “Fueled by popcorn, the men of St. Edward’s Hall and I couldn’t be more ready to sport our mullets in this fight against malaria. Thank you to GFS for the help in this battle!”

Good luck to Bianchi and our brave boys!

A call to...

Our brave leader: Mackey

... arms!
It’s time to do battle with our enemy, malaria! The follicles have grown out, and now, it’s time to transform heads of hairs into malaria’s worse nightmare… mullets I had the opportunity to speak with Matt Verdeschi, Steds sophomore and Mullet Against Malaria commissioner. If anyone knows what's going on HERE, it's going to be Mullets Against Malaria Commissioner, Kyle Mackey. Here's what he had to say...

St.Ed: For those who are new to Steds, what is Mullets Against Malaria?

Mackey: Mullets Against Malaria is our Hall’s annual humanitarian quest to end malaria. It’s a high-stakes charity drive where men of Steds sacrifice their dignity (and good hair days) to raise money for malaria prevention. It’s like the Avengers of Charity drives, but instead of super suits and shields, we’ve got bad haircuts and fundraising goals.

St.Ed: How is Steds using mullets to stop malaria?

Mackey: Simple. Every mullet grown is like a slap in malaria’s face. We raise money by styling our hair in this iconic fashion, and people donate because they either love us, pity us, or also hate malaria. Every dollar raised goes directly to purchasing mosquito nets and other prevention efforts.

St. Ed: As our commander in the fight, how are you rallying the men to offer their locks to this noble cause?

Mackey: As commissioner, I’ve reminded our men that no matter how bad their mullets look, they’ll always be heroes to someone in the fight against malaria. This is for a cause greater than just a haircut.

St. Ed: When you get your mop of hair styled, will it be a mullet, and if so, will it have a name?

Mackey: Oh, it’ll be a mullet all right. I’m aiming for a classic ‘80s country music mullet. The kind that screams, “I just finished a show at the Grand Ole Opry and now I’m headed to the county fair.”

St. Ed: Okay, maybe you can’t say, but do we have any secret weapons in this fight?

Mackey: Of course we do. The most important weapon we have is the confidence of a guy who thinks his mullet looks good. If style alone doesn’t crush malaria, the sheer audacity will. It’s hard for Malaria to win when it’s up against guys who’ve all willingly chosen to look like extras in a Billy Ray Cyrus music video.

St.Ed: How can others join you and brave boys, maybe not with a mullet, in this fight against malaria?

Mackey: Joining the fight is easy! If growing a mullet isn’t your thing (we get it, not everyone can handle the responsibility), you can still donate, share our campaign, or cheer us on with your support.  At the end of the day, whether it’s mullets or no mullets, we’re all in this together to fight malaria.

Good luck to Mackey and our brave boys!
