Time for Advent

... from Notre Dame. Here's a picture of the front door of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and if you closely, you can see the Advent wreath fixed atop the door. Yes, this Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent, and in churches around the world, the first purple candle will be lit... and even in Steds. While students are away, Sunday Mass at Steds will still be available via our links below, BUT there is a new time... 5PM EST. Enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

The Notre Dame-Newman Centre in Dublin, Ireland, at University Church on St. Stephen's Green, is releasing a series of Advent Lessons and Carols on our YouTube page each Sunday of this season. The first video of this series premieres tonight at 6 PM at this link. We hope that you will join us for around 20 minutes of prayer and song in preparation for the birth of our Lord. 

Saturday squirrel.

On three... one, two...

With everyone away on break, our squirrels are discovering they have campus unto themselves. No longer do they need to share anything... the sidewalks, quads, trees, and paths around the lakes. They even have complete run of the trash cans. And while that might be the case, our furry friends are quickly learning they are all empty. Sadly, gone are treasures they once held. Still, the squirrels are willing to take a chance and drive into a can, and that's what this squirrel was doing outside of Steds. On taking a plunge, this squirrel non-verbal, "It's not easy. It takes a lot of courage!"

The Gentlemen, as I am, are thankful for all the laughs, memorable and fun times, and Yacht Dances that have come from this special place, St. Edward's Hall. Indeed, we have much to be thankful for. THANK YOU to all who help make the traditions and high jinxes carry on. God's blessing upon all of you!

Let it snow

... snowed. Yes, just as kids left campus had to snow. Still, it was a beautiful snow fall. While it snowed during the morning, it gave way to rain in the afternoon. On the snow fall, Fr. Terry Ehrman, C.S.C., botanist and theologian, said, "Yup, it's about time."

Take a break

With students having departed for Christmas Break, a silence has descended across campus. At first, it is most unnerving. Where is the laughter? Where are the shouts to friends passing on the quad? Yes, where has it all gone? But then, in the silence, it sinks in... we're on break. And yes, everyone needs one! So, put down the books. Don't set an alarm. Lounge around in your pjs. Indulge in some comfort food. Tap a nap if you feel like it. Watch another episode of your favorite show or whatever it may be. Why? Because you're on break. Make the most of it, and enjoy!

Today marks the start of Christmas Break, and we will continue to bring you, every other day, the life and times of St. Edward’s Hall!

Sunday joy

... from Notre Dame. This past week saw the end of finals and a close of the Fall Semester, and nothing captures this milestone better than this setting sun on St. Joseph's Lake. A tranquil scene to a semester that had its share of highs and lows, surprises and setbacks, triumphs and failures. Wherever you are, let's slow down for a moment, and take in the moment, noting you've been and where you've yet to go. And as you do, don't forget to enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

Mass will continue NEXT SUNDAY, November 29th, at a NEW TIME that still has to be determined. More to come!

Pumpkin for one 

Even though Halloween has long since past, its "trappings" are still with us. Yes, all about campus, from the lakes to the various quads, remnants, usually smashed, can be seen. And while it causes an unpleasant sight, there are some who are most happy at the mess. Who are these happy campers? Why our furry friends of course. The smashed pumpkins all about campus have been a most welcome addition to the sundry list of edibles that our squirrels enjoy. On being spotted nibbling on a pumpkin outside Fisher Hall, this squirrel non-verbaled, "It's de-lish!"
