Mom's Weekend...

It says it all!

... came to close with Mass at the St. Edward's Hall Chapel. And... it was crowded unlike ever before, with Stedsmen sitting on the floor all the way to the altar! With Joe Robuck at the piano and Isaiah Alvendia as cantor, everyone did twice the praising... singing with full voice and heart. And while it was true that one Stedsman was overcome by it all, the good news is that he's, but he'll have to find other ways of getting attention than fainting! Thank you to all moms for joining us in celebrating you. We wouldn't be here nor be the Gentlemen we are and are becoming if it were not for you! Steds loves their Moms!

Mom's Weekend...

A perfecting end...

... continued. After the Welcome Soirée of Friday night and brunch at the North Dining Hall, it was time for the main event the Celebration Dinner in the Downes Club of the seventh floor of Corbett Hall. As a string trio played, moms and sons were treated to unique campus views and of the football field. Still yet, there was a photographer present to take pictures of moms and their sons as well as any desired group shot. Following dinner, a presentation was was given where Fr. Ralph gave an ever so brief harmonica recital which was quickly followed by a poignant reflection given by Gavin Cullinan on the what moms mean to Stedsmen. Later, during a talk by newly elected Hall President, Thomas Kelly, next year's Mom's Weekend Commissioner, Ryan Davey, was announced. And as the evening drew to a close, everyone was treated to a beautiful sunset. And as one mom shared, "It was a perfect ending to a perfect day." Indeed, it was!

What did they do...

Don't get in the way of Papal Rage!

… over Spring Break. Well, for two Stedsmen, Colin Stevens and James Longhurst, it was off to tourney play with their ND Ultimate Frisbee team, Papal Rage. Traveling to the playoffs in Myrtle Beach, Steds senior James "Hook" Longhurst (bottom row 3rd from the right) and sophomore Colin "Splash" Stevens #50, were playing for keeps. As the tourney began, the team started the tournament with a win over Lehigh, then upsetting highly ranked Georgia Tech, and finally finishing pool play by defeating Harvard. But Papal Rage couldn’t rest on its laurels. The rage had to continue on with tournament play in Tallahassee.

As season continues, there is certainly more to come. But on the season thus far and recent performances in Myrtle Beach and Tallahassee, Stevens disclosed,

“Going into the season, there was a lot of uncertainty about how good the team would be this year, especially since we graduated a lot of very good seniors last year. The first couple tournaments seemed to verify that with some poor performances. However, as the team got closer and developed more chemistry, we started playing better including beating a lot of strong teams a month ago in South Carolina and breaking seed by a lot. Most recently, we had a tournament in Tallahassee where we placed fourth, giving us high hopes for sectionals and regionals coming up soon. I know I am looking forward to the rest of the season and seeing how far we can make it.”

Good luck Papal Rage!

Maps, maps on the wall...

The excitement is palatable...

… tell me the fairest room of all! The most important place in Steds right now is the Flounge and the Lobby. Why? Because that’s the Room Picks mans and lottery list have been placed! Okay, and why are the maps and list so important? Well, these maps with various colored dots tell Stedsmen which rooms are open for selection at next Tuesday's Room Picks as well as which ones have been reserved for incoming freshmen. And the list, well, it tells everyone when each person can select a room. On the posting of maps and lottery lists, Robert Cline, Steds senior and the one who posted the maps and list, shared, “The tradition of room picks in St. Ed’s is timeless, historic, and now upon us. As we gaze upon these excited faces, let us be reminded of our youth, and just how great it might be to live in the Greg Quad.”

Studying abroad...

A Roman Reunion: Rauch, Avey, Connolly, and Digenan

... but also traveling abroad too. While juniors Brendan Avey and John Digenan are studying abroad in Dublin and London, they have managed to take a break from their rigorous studies to travel. Traveling to Rome, Avey and Digenan took visited the Eternal City and saw their fellow Steds study abroaders, Louis Rauch and Ryan Connolly. Judging by their smiles, it seems that studying abroad is treating these Stedsmen quite well. On the Steds gathering in Rome, an unnamed Stedsmen and fellow junior Stateside said, "That's amore!"

Stedsman...

Connaughton: Going down town for three...

... on the court! Brian Conway '12 took in a basketball game where the Milwaukee Bucks took on the Washington Wizards. To his surprise, he wasn't the only Stedsman at the game as there was a former Stedsman on the court... Patrick Connaughton '15! Connaughton, number 24, is a guard for the Bucks and now is entering his eight year in NBA and sixth with the Bucks. While Connaughton play a great game, the Wizards and their home court advantage was just too much as they brought down the Bucks by a score of 117 to 113. On seeing Connaughton play, Conway shared, "The cherry blossoms may have all dropped, but I'm thrilled to see my favorite resident Pat Connaughton dropping threes on the Wizards!"
