Golfing and...

Steds golfers...

... and game watching! That was the order of the day for our Stedsmen this past Saturday. Since the football game was in the late afternoon, the morning was free, and so, why not go golfing at the Burke, the on campus golf course, and have a golf scramble? As only St. Edward's could, the course was reserved for the Stedsmen, who regardless of skill level, scrambled their best. From first timers to junior pros, the Stedsmen gave it the old college go, swinging away, sinking putts, and snacking on Chick-Fil-A. BUT THERE WAS MORE! Later in the day, at the direction of the Hall President, Aidan Tompkins, there was a game watch in Flounge with barbecue ribs, brisket and more. Suffice it to say, between the food and the game, the Gentlemen were sitting pretty. On the day, John Cook, Steds freshmen and resident Californian, shared, "Attending both the Steds Scramble and the game watch was a perfect way to spend my away Game Day weekend. I enjoyed food, golf, great football, and most especially, the company of my Steds brothers. It was and always is a recipe for a great time!"

Caught on camera...

With the arrival fall, our furry friends are bit busy getting ready for the upcoming winter, and so, they happy to cede the stage to other campus critters… caterpillars. Found anywhere on campus, but especially around the vegetation of the lakes, caterpillars can be found on almost any and every plant and tree. But, if you really want to see a monarch caterpillar, then you should go to one plant, the milkweed plant. The only caterpillar who likes to munch on their leaves, milkweed plants are monarch caterpillar central. On spotting a monarch caterpillar on a milkweed plant around St. Mary’s Lake, Fr. Terry Ehrman, CSC, theologian and botanist, said, “Winter’s coming so he better keep on munching.”

At the heart of it all: Lainey Lee

... for the Wall Family! At the historic Log Chapel, Lainey Wall, the daughter of Krista '15 and Patrick'14 Wall, made the long journey from California and was baptized. Surrounded by her family and Steds family, Lainey was welcomed into the Catholic Church and stuck the baptism, not even crying as water poured upon her head. Unlike the game against Cal, Lainey's baptism was a decisive victory, making the weekend only more celebratory and memorable. On Lainey's 

baptism, Bobby Weltner, C.S.C., Steds Holy Cross seminarian and co-host of the In the Red Room, stated, “Five years ago, I stood beside Pat at the altar, as he married Krista on a beautiful day in SoCal. Today, I stood beside him and his wife - again at the altar - for the baptism of their first child, Lainey. Two grace-filled moments for the Wall family and two joy-filled opportunities for me to celebrate my Steds brother and his family. Congratulations and welcome to the Church, Lainey!”

They're getting married!

Saying yes somewhere in Utah: Bailey and Dawson

Yup! They're getting married! Stedsman, Dawson Robinson '16, and St. Mary’s Belle, Bailey Oppman ’18, are to be married next year. Congratulations and best wishes to Dawson and Bailey respectively! Suffice to say, more to come. On their upcoming nuptials, Douglas “Dougie” Barnard, Stedsman and cousin of Dawson, shared, “Sorry ladies - the former ‘Irish Bachelor’ is now taken. Dawson was a pillar of leadership and excellence at Steds for four years. He served the Hall as an RA and led by example in his dedication to his academics and faith. Now, Dawson has found true love and I, along with all of Irish Bachelor nation, congratulate him on his recent engagement!”

At precisely...

The passing glory...

... 9:04pm EDT summer will end and fall began. Speaking meteorologically, fall started September 1st and will continue until November 30th, but speaking astronomically, looking to the celestial and solar system events, like the autumnal equinox, that day when the sun crosses the celestial equator in a southerly direction and day and night are of equal time, fall starts tomorrow and will continue until December 21st. Regardless of whether you speak meteorologically or astronomically, we are all sad to see summer go, and before it does, let’s take a look back on all the glory of summer. Enjoy.
