... at the Basilica? We know construction was done on the inside, but what’s going on the outside? Well, the steeple’s carillon needed some attention, namely its screens. The weathered screens, made of metal, were sanded and repainted, and now, they look like the proverbial million dollars. On the renovation, the an unnamed Basilica staff member stated, "Everyone is going to like their renovated carillon!"

What are they...

... up to? Oh, we know well that our students are back to the grind of classes, paper writing, and much more, but what are our Steds Alumni up to? Yes, what are they doing these last days of summer? Some Stedsmen recently gathered in the D.C. area to enjoy each other's company as well as a barbecue. Nothing says summer more than that. On the gathering, Chris Susco '21 shared, "It’s hard to believe it’s already been over a year since graduation, but it’s awesome that the friendships haven’t changed a bit!”

Into the lion's

Brutus on the chopping block with Steds Seniors...

... den! That's what it must have felt like as Notre Dame fans poured into Columbus for the showdown between the Irish and Ohio State. Even though favored to lose, Notre Dame fans showed no fear wearing the blue and gold, and even green, to see their team and Coach Freedman demonstrate what they were capable of against these nuts, the Buckeyes, of as well as what to expect this season. One group of true Notre Dame fans were our Steds seniors. Convened by Drew McClimon, Steds RA and resident of New Albany, Ohio, a contingent of Stedsmen made the trek down to the Horseshoe to reinforce and buoy game day spirits. On the gathering in Columbus, former Stedsman, Matt McClimon '92, shared, "Though we cant compete with the comfort of Drew’s freshman year 1st floor loft, we were grateful to provide food and shelter to 18 Stedsmen after such an inhospitable game."

But there's more...  

As Stedsmen gathered in the Flounge and Columbus, Stedsmen gathered elsewhere to cheer on their Fighting Irish. 

Also in Ohio, recent Steds graduates gathered. On the gathering former President Peter Nichols said, "How could we not?"

And in the Hamptons, Steds graduates of the Class of 2020 gathered for some Labor Day fun and football. On the gathering of former Stedsmen, Mary Ellen Gambardella, mom of President Josh Gambardella, shared, "Like the roar of the tide and the warmth of the sun, a gathering of such a group of Gentlemen truly warms the heart and soul!"

... not to be out done, so did the Class of 2020, both around the TV...

Saturday squirrel.

Spotted!

We're not alone. Oh, we may think that we are, but we're not. Whether we realize it or not, there are others with us as we move about campus. Who are the others? They are our furry friends, squirrels. And we least expect it, campus squirrels are right there watching us. What are they thinking? Who knows, but we do know is that they are watching us. And that was certainly the case walking on South Quad by Howard Hall. Suddenly, there was a commotion from above, and then, this furry friend come out of hiding. On being spotted, this squirrel non-verbaled, "Ah, hi there... bye!"

The supply chain...

This card opens doors

... is finally straightened out. When students arrived to campus last week, they were given temporary ID cards. Yes, temporary. Why? Unbeknownst to all of us, ND ID cards contain a chip, and you guessed it. There was a shortage of these card chips. But now, the supply chain has gotten itself all straightened out, chips are once again flowing to ND Card Services, and new students can claim their real ID cards. One student who gotten his new, real ID card was freshman and Californian, Aidan Ekizian. On getting his real ID card, Ekizian said, "After getting my permanent ID card, it feels like I have officially been accepted into the Notre Dame family! I can’t wait for the next four years, building connections that will last a lifetime!"

It's coming...

Keurig is dispensing liquid goodness for O'Leary...

... along. Yes, the complete renovation of the Gregorian Lounge on the second floor is coming along. While everything was ordered in May, much of the furniture has yet to arrive. Still, substantial progress has been made. A new paint and carpet scheme, selected by the out going Hall president and vice presidents, has been implemented as well as something else, something that has brought much rejoicing. The Hall's new Keurig coffee machine. Using its touch screen, Stedsmen are able to make coffee drinks from lattes to cappuccinos, hot coco to just regular plain black coffee, and almost anything else that their hearts desire. Yup, you guessed it. This machine has made morning commutes and rising, late night studying, Folgers at Four and so much more, better, AND it's all free. On the arrival of new coffee machine, Jack O'Leary, Steds senior and former Hall vice president who helped guide the renovation, declared, "Firm handshakes, warm cups of specialty coffee, and an appreciation for the cutting edge are what you find in St. Edward’s Hall. The blue paint, more comfortable work spaces, and new coffee machine really enhance our beloved Gregorian Lounge, and I am excited to see it all in action, especially on Friday’s!"

O'Leary and President Tompkins declare victory...
