Today, we start
the new series of “Where are they now?: Alumni Spotlight,” an opportunity to find out where and what our fellow Stedsmen are up to since graduation.
First in the spotlight is Dominic (Dom)
Fanelli ‘11, a German and Economics major, former RA, and ACE teacher.
Let's find out what Dom's up to now...
St. Ed: Someone told me that you're now working for NBC in Germany? I didn't
realize NBC does German programming. I would like to hear Blacklist in the original German.
Fanelli: You may want to hear it, but I don't. James Spader has a
terrible accent. No, I actually teach at a local high school, and I am the
assistant basketball coach for Nuremberg Basketball Club, or NBC for short.
St. Ed: I hear that German cuisine, moreover beer, is heavy. How do you keep
from having to break out the larger lederhosen?
Fanelli: German beer is heavy. I have resorted to wearing sweat
pants. The elastic band fits any sized belly.
St. Ed: What is the toughest word for an American to say in German?
Fanelli: Any word with "ch." We
have trouble making the soft clearing your throat noise. It doesn't sound
too bad when the Germans do it, but when I try it, I sound like an Austrian
with rocks in his mouth.
St. Ed: So, you're in Germany on a Fulbright scholarship, working with NBC,
but let's be honest. Aren't you there "Herr Fanelli" to continue
spying on the German Chancellor and the rest of Europe?
Fanelli: Someone has to make sure Germans aren’t up to no good!
But…please keep that to yourself.
St. Ed: Of course, Dom.
