It's official...

Mr. & Mrs. Grant and Sydni Koch...

... they're married! With Fr. Ralph witnessing and the Steds family present, Dr. Sydni Meunier ’17 of Welsh Family and Grant Koch ’17 of Steds were married at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. It was a beautiful day, made only more beautiful by this bride and groom. Both members of the Notre Dame Field and Track Team, we all finally learned that these two were not running away from life but rather to each other. It took some time for them to get there, but what an amazing finish! On Sydni joining the Steds Family, Daara Jalili ’17, Stedsman and groomsman, shared, “Grant and Sydni make a beautiful couple! We are so blessed to have Sydni join our Steds family. Here’s to Sydni Koch, the newest addition to our Family!”

Best wishes and congratulations to Sydni and Grant!

Your Sunday picture...

... from Notre Dame. With the students gone for the summer, a silence has descending upon campus. But one thing that hasn't changed has been the beautiful sunsets. Here is a sunset as seen from the middle of South Quad. Enjoy, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

Goodbye and...

Thank you and Welcome

... hello. Yes, as we say goodbye to our old ice machine, we say hello to our NEW ice machine. Serving the Steds Family for over eighteen years and have been given a second lease on life twice thanks to ND Maintenance, time finally caught up with our trusted and valued member of Steds. Indeed, it is a bittersweet moment for the Gentlemen, having to part with an old friend, but as Yodi said, "There is another!" Indeed, there is, and soon, it too will become like family to Notre Dame's oldest and most storied residence hall. On the new ice machine, Nikolai Eggleton '25 shared, "I really wish this happened after graduation as it was painful for another of reasons. One, we lost a friend, and two, I had to use a dining hall meal swipe just to get ice!"

Off to the races!

Stedsmen at Belmont Park with the Lady Lobaccaro

Recently graduated Stedsmen traveled from the "unfashionable West Egg" to Elmont, New York, for the 147th Belmont Stakes. With hopes high for a Triple Crown winner, everyone was in good spirits up until the race finished and California Chrome loss. On the 4th place finish of California Chrome, Dan Rish said, "Now how am I going to pay my student loans?"

Western Steds.

Like San Francisco, the O.C. is long goodbye

Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and the time for Western Steds to move operations back out east has come. What a time it has been! From assisting at Our Lady Queen of Angels to visiting the Steds Family, from meeting with prospective students to Notre Dame Alumni, it has been a memorable time to say the least. When leaving the O.C. not only will there be a great base tan but also great memories. Do not worry as you'll hear all about it soon enough. In the meantime, enjoy these pics from the O.C. On his Western Steds tour, Fr. Ralph shared, "I wish we could be Californians."

Saturday Squirrel.

A confectionary surprise

Recently, a taste test was conducted during a taping of In the Red Room that pitted Hostess Twinkies against Little Debbie's Swiss Cake Rolls. The outcome of the taste test is not important, but what is that one of persons in the test, was Henry Mackie. Mackie, a rising sophomore from New York and Hall Vice President, who voted in favor of Little Debbie and her rolls, could not finish his Twinkie. Instead of throwing it away, Fr. Ralph shared it, for better or for worse, with a furry friend, who unlike Mackie, devoured it. On the receiving Mackie's discarded Twinkie, this squirrel non-verbaled, "Amazing!"

You can never...

They're ready to matriculate!

... start too soon. It's never too soon to start thinking about the future, and that's what what Lilly, Rory, and Patrick Carr were doing. On a recent trip to Notre Dame, the Carr children joined their parent Jon '18 and Emily as their Julia Carr graduated, but it quickly became apparent that the kids were there for that and more. This become evident when the kids asked to see and admissions counselor, and when Rory and Patrick asked to see a rooms at Steds. On the Carr children's visit, Fr. Ralph shared, "There's no question about it. We got room for all of you. And bring those smiles!"

California Calling.

The beautiful Mission San Carlos Borromeo

Sted's Rector, Fr. Ralph Haag, CSC, is getting a little down time in California, enjoying the sun and surf. When asked about of his recent visit to the Mission Church of San Borromeo in Carmel, Haag said, "I thought that they said, ‘Do you want a caramel?’ I replied, ‘It’s a little early, but okay...why not?’ Two hours later I was at a church.”
