Rededication Day.

The celebration starts...

Founder's Week commenced with "Rededication Day.” Once again, Stedsmen gathered to rededicate the Rededication of the Rededication of… the Dedication of the Gregorian Lounge in the memory of Luigi Gregori. Originally called the Sorin Society Room, where oratory skills were practiced, it was forgotten and lost for a number of years. Rediscovered when a fake wall was removed and restored, the mural once again regained its place of honor. Painted by Luigi Gregori- the artist who painted the University's Basilica and Main Building- the room was dedicated to his memory in 2006 and rededicated ever since.

At this year’s Rededication, there was a reading of a modern adaptation of the Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham by one of the youngest residents of the Hall, Michael Petrides,  and “a reflection” on the Gregorian Lounge by the oldest resident of the Hall, PJ Carroll. Still, there was the reading from a letter written in 1884 by Meriwether Snodgrass, former resident, on seeing the Gregorian Mural for the first time. Oh, yes! There was more. In addition to the new wall plaque commemorating this year’s Rededication, a picture of of the late professor Gregori was hung directly across from the mural… almost as if Gregori was still gazing upon the beauty of his mural.

On participating in the Rededication and offering a moving reflection, PJ Carroll, Steds senior, RA, and resident Michigander, shared, "The ambiance, the soundscape, the energy, they all screamed Steds this evening. What a great night to see the men of Steds bonding before our beautiful mural.

They're at it...

Boo!

... again. Yes, North Dining Hall is at it again, putting smiles on the faces of the kids. It may not be the food they're serving up that's causing the smiles, but it certainly is the festive decorations that are scattered about the dinning hall. Indeed, they may not be ready to serve the mass of students looking for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but they're certainly ready for Halloween! On the Halloween decorations, Daniel Arrubla, Steds freshman, dining hall regular, and resident Floridian, disclosed, "I enjoy the inflatable decorations in the dining halls to create a sense of Halloween spirit and excitement."

With the start of Fall Break, the blog will be every other day... and while the kids may be on break, podcast is NOT! To hear this week's installment of In the Red Room, on:

Hooping...

Niccol: Scouting it for the Lady Irish

... it up. Yes, a Stedsman is hooping it up with the Notre Dame Women's Basketball team. A scout for the Lady Irish basketball players, Drew Niccol practices with the team. But practicing with the team isn't simply picking up a basketball and hitting the court. Ha. If only it were that easy! No, practicing with the team requires watching hours of tape of upcoming opponents BEFORE practice and then mimicking a specific opposing player during practice. It's a real commitment, one not for the faint of heart! But being a scout does have its rewards too. On being a scout, Drew Niccol, Steds freshmen and resident Southern Californian, shared, "Being a member of the scout team for women’s basketball is a lot of fun. It feels close to being a student athlete without truly being one, and it is a pretty cool prospect to be a part of a team that has a shot at winning a national championship. I live for the competition and we get plenty of that on a daily basis. Sometimes we even get fresh berries which is a huge bonus."
