They...

Rowan: Ready to set sail!

... dropped anchor! Shirts for THE hall dance of the year, the Steds Yacht Dance, have arrived... and just in time too! With the dance on next Wednesday, the last day of classes at Notre Dame, these shirts will be distributed with just enough time to be worn and make others envious. Designed by senior Luke Bell, the shirt is eye catching and communicates "we're on a boat." Without doubt, it's the hottest shirt of the year. On receiving his last Yacht dance shirt, Rowan Oswald, freshman and resident New Yorker, shared, “Wearing the yacht dance shirt about campus serves as a reminder to everyone that we have the best traditions on campus, from running through the pool to the Yacht Dance.”

The luck...

The luck of Steds!

... of St. Ed's! As residents of Notre Dame's oldest and most storied residence hall continues to bask in its ND Day glory, and they should, and thank all who rallied to the cause, and they should, it appears that the Gentlemen have something else to thank... ND Shamrocks. Bill Dufour, father of Stedsman Joe Dufour and long time friend of St. Ed., noted that his ND Shamrocks had an anomaly, a luck anomaly. Yes, growing amongst the shamrocks was a FOUR leafed shamrock! While St. Ed's had people rallying to their cause from all the country and globe, they also had a blast a support and luck from a potted shamrock plant in Galena, Illinois. Folks, you just can't make this up! On the four leaf shamrock, Bill shared, "We're not overlooking this four leaf shamrock! The Class of 2012 Shamrocks must have imparted some ND Day luck for Steds!!!!"

Your Sunday picture...

Simply perfect

... from Notre Dame. Here's a spring scene with the Sacred Heart of Jesus statute in the heart of God Quad, with red tulips on the cusp of blooming, as the Sun rises. Spring continues to bloom, and campus is awash with color... and pollen. Enjoy, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

Saturday's squirrel.

Lunch time...

Our furry friends are taking a break so our other campus critters can get some attention. Right now, there's a lot of action about the lakes with the arrival of goslings. Appearing out of nowhere, goslings are now all about St. Mary's Lake. Of course, protective parents are always close, but these goslings are wary of strangers, staying close to mom and dad. Still, every now and then, you can get a little closer to them and snap a photo like the one above. On being photographed, this gosling non-verbaled, "Get off the grass that we're trying to eat."

It's a big...

Fr. Ralph having a ND Day moment.

... deal! Yes, St. Ed's win this past ND Day is a big deal. It truly is. Whether small or large, once and multiple times, your rallying to cause of the oldest and most storied residence hall at Notre Dame sent a clear and definitive message... St. Ed's is loved! And that message is edifying, awesome, and humbling. It puts pride the sails of all... that St. Ed's, the little hall that is, is loved, cherished, remembered in the biggest way. Suffice it to say, the residents of St. Edward's will be wearing any and all Steds apparel this week as they go about campus, and in the days to come, will express their gratitude for all the support this ND Day. On ND Day, an unnamed Steds alumnus shared, "The mission has never been more clear. I owe a lot to Steds, and I hope the legacy continues!"

Indeed it is, and it will, thanks to all of you!

THANK YOU!

The numbers tell it all!

Thank you to all Stedsmen, moms and dads, brothers and sisters, grand and godparents, friends, people of goodwill, Saturday’s squirrels, pets of all species… and anyone else who we are forgetting...THANK YOU for rallying to our cause this ND Day.

It's true. Some other residence halls and University clubs made a run at Steds, but as the day progressed, most of them lost their steam. Still, some appeared at of nowhere, like the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, and for awhile, traded the positions with Steds for fifth place overall. And then, it was Dillon Hall, who received a large gift, pushing them in front of both the swimmers and Steds. But Dillon couldn’t hold on to its lead. Why? Because of YOU.

Because of you, we rallied in the last moment of the day, and now, are once again the #1 residence hall of this ND Day. And if you are counting, this is now the three thousand six hundred and fifty-first  day of our time in the pole position. Yup, this win makes it ten years in a row!

And if that wasn’t enough, we also surpassed our perennial nemesis, Financial Aid! That’s right, we passed them too, and in the end, we landed in third place overall! Without any doubt whatsoever, Steds truly is the small hall that could!

On St. Ed’s showing this ND Day, I don’t think that words can capture how grateful we all are. And we are mots grateful. To be honest, as the rector of the winning hall, it is most humbling, and though it might sound trite, all I can say is a sincere and honest, “Thank you.” BUT, if pressed, I would have to say, “A united Steds has never been disappointed!”

... and we're moving on up...

... and it's a win for the kids!

ND Day...

Steds Hall President Kelly: The kids need your help!

… is HERE. Once again, the Gentlemen are asking for ANY and ALL support from ANY and ALL persons wherever they may be! If you are unaware of this important day, below is a message being sent to all family and friends of St. Edward's that explains the importance of this day.

It is only because of your generosity on this day that we can host our beloved events as well as start new ones, make renovations and upgrades to the Hall, support our inter-hall sports teams, and much more. In short, the funds raised on THIS DAY makes Steds, well, Steds. NONE of this would be possible without your support for this Notre Dame Day!  So, remember Steds and spread the word!

What is Notre Dame Day?

Notre Dame Day is a day for celebrating all things Notre Dame.  We hope that you tune in, take action, and help the important work of Notre Dame’s OLDEST AND MOST STORIED RESIDENCE HALL, ST. EDWARD’S HALL.

Why is this important?

Your participation will directly impact the life of our Hall the building of life long friendships, memories, and camaraderie that ultimately make the Notre Dame experience. But don't listen to me... hear it from the big man himself, President Tommy Kelly. On why someone should give to Steds, President Kelly declared, "A small donation to Steds on ND day is an investment that will always pay off. ND day is where steds separates ourselves from every other dorm on campus through our continued loyalty and support from current and former stedsmen. For hall and king!”

How do I impact the life of St. Edward’s?

Watch the ND Day broadcast at notredameday.nd.edu and at the site, go to "causes" or use the search bar. Next, in the search bar, type in St. Edward’s (or St Ed’s), and give what you can. You can also find us by looking under residence halls too. Ten dollars is the perfect gift. Really. No gift is too much nor any gift too small. To give, click HERE.

Remember ND Day is on Tuesday, April 23rd, and Wednesday, April 24th, and begins each night at 6:42PM EST, ending at 11:59PM EST.

And don’t forget, please share this message with others, anyone and everyone can participate for St. Ed’s! To give, click HERE.

What will St. Edward’s Hall do with its Notre Dame Day funds?

As the oldest residence hall on campus, we need your support to help keep our Hall the special place that it is.  We have used past ND Day funds to make improvements to our common spaces, our pool room, the study lounges, gym and so much more.  We have also used funds for a new basketball hoop, a new outdoor hall sign, and new uniforms for our hall sports teams to win and lose in style. Check out the Hall’s blog HERE to see the daily life in St. Ed’s and the impact that this ND Day has here.

To watch our ND Day impact video, click HERE!

But remember, NONE of this would be possible if not for you.  Your participation, and the encouraging of others to do the same, make all of this possible, having an immediate and tremendous impact on the lives, camaraderie, and spirits of those who call this hall their home under the Dome.

All our love and thanks,

St. Edward & The Gentlemen of St. Edward’s Hall

Remember, only YOU can make their hopes a reality!
