And suddenly...

... they were everywhere! Yes, suddenly the Starships, the campus motorized food delivery robots, were everywhere. And they were all headed in the same direction. But why? What did they know that we did not? To find out, we headed in the direction they were leaving, and after short walk around the Main Building, we found out why. A fire. A fire at LaFortune caused not only all personnel and visitors to evacuate the building but also all the Starships too! On seeing all the Starships, an unnamed person shared, "It's true! AI is one step ahead of us! But else do they know that we don't?"

Western Steds.

If he could have, then he would have! Fr. Sorin would have wanted to be in Southern California. Moving operations, Steds has now headed west to an annual parish assistance assignment at Newport Beach. And you guessed it. The sun is NOT out as May grey has truly led to June gloom. Oh, the surf is up and a cool breeze is coming off the ocean, but getting a base tan for the summer is hard work. Still, it been a pleasure seeing ND Alumni and Stedsmen in the area. On Western Steds, Fr. Ralph said, "How long am I staying? Not long enough!"

... from Notre Dame. Here's is view of the high altar at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Crafted and imported from France by Fr. Sorin, the high altar depicts the new and heavenly Jerusalem as described in the Book of Revelation. Still, you can also see the altar of the Lady Chapel attributed to the Renaissance artist and sculptor, Lorenzo Bernini, and / or of one his students. How did the altar come to be a permanent fixture at Notre Dame? Yes, you guess it. Fr. Sorin. Enjoy, and enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be! 

He's back!

Kremus: Arigato Japan!

After spending the Spring Semester abroad in Japan, Colin Kremus, Steds junior, is now back stateside. Learning the language, Colin also discovered an affinity for Japanese culture, and while his three month visit may be over, there is no doubt that he's already planning to return. Perhaps it was all the flashing lights, the constant crowds, or sushi and sake, Kremus has fallen in love with Japan. On his study abroad experience, Kremus shared, "Spending five months completely immersed in a culture and area of the world so different from my own of course came with many challenges. More than anything else, however, my experiences in Japan (navigating cities and their oftentimes maze-like public transportation systems, persevering through conversations that eventually led to new acquaintances, and constantly being reminded of how big the world truly is) served as a definitive confirmation that I was following a path that I was meant to be on. I am certain that this path will lead me back to Japan and all of the wonderful connections I was blessed to have made there.”

Sansone: Hakuna mata!

... it! He did it! He reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro! While we all thought he was looking for some fresh air, Patrick Sansone ’21 was doing anything but that. Featured in In the Red Room on the Road: Chicago and on the blog (click here), we learned that this Stedsman and Duke medical physics grad was climbing Africa’s tallest mountain not for air but for a cause, Radiating Hope. To learn more about this important cause and how you too can help, click here. With many counting on him, Sansone didn’t disappoint, reaching the summit in fine style and showing his true colors too! On his summiting, Sansone said, "Although the climb is over, the goal of bringing access to cancer care in Tanzania still continues!"

Proud parents and priest with Maisie

With Fr. Ralph presiding and with parents, Jess and Patrick Krauss '16 (click here), and family and Stedsmen present, Margaret “Maisie” Louise Krauss was baptized at the Log Chapel on Corpus Christi. The history and significance of the Log Chapel grew that day as it was not only the place where Maisie was baptized but also the place where her great grand mother was baptized and married. We really do love history and tradition at Notre Dame! While it was rainy, there was no damper on spirits, especially Maisie’s, as she was attentive and an active participant throughout her baptism. Still yet, she was even all smiles for the pictures at the end! On his daughter's baptism, Krauss shared, "It was an amazing experience being able to baptize Maisie at the Log Chapel where her great grandparents were married and the campus where her parents and both sets of grandparents met. It was a beautiful ceremony that was capped off by a lunch where Maisie was able to enjoy a big bowl of mac and cheese all to herself.”

Staycation and off the grid

Just as we need a break from it all so do our furry friends. Yes, sometimes our furry friends need a break from it all. They need a break from it all... from all the scurrying about, senseless digging, constant begging, and other sundry and nonsensical activities. But where do they go? Answer, St. Joseph's Lake. Recently, with students gone for the summer, a number of squirrels were seen congregating and relaxing on the beach at St. Joseph's Lake. On being spotted taking a break, this squirrel non-verbaled, "I would like to go to America's Playground, Northwest Ohio, but this year, we all decided to have a 'staycation.'"

In between Braeden's parents, the happy couple exchanges rings...

...they're married! With Fr. Ralph witnessing, and with fellow Stedsmen and Walsh residents present, Kristin Andrejeko’19 of Walsh and Braeden Benedict’19 of Steds were married at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame. It was a beautiful and fantastic day for a wedding, and the day was only made more beautiful and fantastic by this radiant bride and grinning groom. From their smiles to soft blue of the bridesmaids dresses to the vows professed, it truly was a day that the Lord had made for them, Kristin and Braeden, and their family and friends.

On Kristin joining the Steds family, Ethan LoCicero, Steds and Best Man, shared, “Kristin is in many ways the first honorary Stedsman of our class, so it’s exciting to see it made official nearly eight years later!”

Still, fellow Stedsman and groomsman, Jack Kaspar added, “It was a special weekend not only to meet up with old roommates and friends, but to celebrate the newest addition to the Steds family, Kristin. One well-accustomed to Steds — a four-time Yacht Dance veteran — she was always one of our own, now officially. It was truly a blessing to have been together once again to witness their love, kindled by our hallowed hall, in full force.”

Still yet, Stedsman and groomsman, Nick Leisen stated, "I am so excited to finally welcome Kristin into the St. Ed’s family. Kristin embodies the compassion and character we all strive for as Stedsmen.”
