Your Sunday picture...

Slow down and notice the flowers!

...from Notre Dame. One thing that we can overlook at Notre Dame is the wildflowers that are all about us. Even though they might cause allergy problems, they are pretty and certainly worth a gander as one shuffles from one campus building to the next. Enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

Again... what's happening at...

Yet another new campus building(s)

...Notre Dame during the summer? The answer... a lot. Here's ANOTHER new building that is going up on campus- the new school of global affairs. The Keough School of Global Affairs, located east of the Hammes Bookstore and North of DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, will be housed in the new Jenkins and Nanovic Halls. Construction is all but finished, but if you are curious as to what the finished building will look like, take a gander by clicking HERE. On the new home for the new school, St. Edward said, “With everything being NEW, I must admit, I feel a bit old.”

What's happening at...

Another new campus building

...Notre Dame during the summer? The answer... a lot. Here's the latest building that is going up on campus- the new school of architecture. The Walsh School of Architecture, located south of the stadium and Legend's, will be the new home for the school of architecture. Hopefully, construction is ahead of schedule, but if you are curious as to what the finished building will look like, take a gander by clicking HERE. On the new home for the school of architecture, St. Edward said, "Seeing it makes we wish I majored in architecture..."

Your Sunday picture...

Looking good...

... from Notre Dame. Here's a beautiful view of the Main Building and Mary from St. Edward's. Once again, this proves that there are no bad views... or rooms... at St. Ed's. Enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

A rare moment...

All's quiet on North Quad

...occurred on campus this Monday. There was no one out and about on North Quad. Now, many will say, "Well, that's par for the course... it's North Quad." But before one causally dismisses this phenomena, remember the number of visiting summer camps and summer school students! On seeing no persons on North Quad, Fr. Ralph said, "Finally, some peace and quiet."

What's happening at...

The west building- the Duncan Student Center

...Notre Dame during the summer? The answer... a lot. Here's another building that is going up on campus- the Crossroads Project. The Crossroads Project, located around the stadium, will be a cluster of three buildings which will contain a new student center, student gym, music and psychology departments and much more. Still yet, there are improvements to the stadium too. Construction is ahead of schedule, and everything will be ready for the start of the football stadium. BUT... everything else will be not open until December.  On the December opening, St. Edward said, "Sorry students."

Best of...

...the Gentlemen's Monthly. Yes, three years ago today, here was today's posting. Enjoy this blast from the past!

Renovation Update.

Almost done

With most of the new windows in place, the roof has been receiving some attention. Damaged slate roof tiles were replaced, new copper finishings added, and a new coat paint given. While the color looks grey in the photo, the final color will be a dark brown that matches the Main Building. On the recent improvements to the roof, Fr. Ralph said, "It looks great, but are we getting a rooftop patio?"

Saturday Squirrel.

It's all mine!

It's slim pickings for our furry friends during the summer. Oh, there the occasional school groups that blow in and out of campus, but so long as students are gone... so is the stable and steady supply of handouts. Still, every now and then, a campus squirrel hits the proverbial jackpot... like the squirrel pictured above. During these lean times, A Steds dad, visiting campus, Gavin Ryan, wondering if this squirrel share a bit or two of that tasty doughnut? On sharing, this squirrel non-verballed to Gavin, "No, I am not sharing! And by the way, do you happen to have a cappuccino?"

Congratulations!

Welcome!

With housing assignments now complete, the fifty new residents of Notre Dame's oldest and most storied residence hall have been chosen. Receiving their assignments on the 7th of July, the new Steds residents will arrive in late August for Welcome Week and orientation. On rooming assignments, Fr. Ralph said, "To our newest residents, welcome, and to all returning residents, get in your rooms and shut the door!"

Happy Sunday

from Notre Dame. Here's a picturesque view of campus from the north side of St. Joseph's Lake. With a pair of ducks meandering about and the setting summer sun upon the the Dome and Basilica steeple, this picture communicates that it was a beautiful Sunday at Notre Dame! Enjoy your Sunday wherever you may be!

It's official...

The happy couple with Fr. Ralph

...they're married! With Fr. Ralph witnessing and with fellow Stedsmen present, Krista Ury’ 14 of St. Mary’s and Patrick Wall ’14 of Steds were married at St. Kilian’s in Mission Viejo, California this past Friday. It was a beautiful Californian day, and it was only made more beautiful by this beaming and radiant couple… so much so one would need sunglasses! On Krista becoming a part of the Steds family, the Stedsmen said, ”Welcome to the family!”

Best wishes and congratulations Krista and Patrick!

Here’s a picture of the Stedsmen attending in a serious photo…

…and one where they are showing their sillier side.

Western Steds continued...

Fr. Ralph, Tim Bossidy '11 and Andy O'Connor '11

...as Steds gathering was convened on Balboa Island. Not surprisingly, the Steds gathering had a distinctive West Coast, Californian vibe to it. Suffice it to say, it was very chill event. Yes, it was chill up until the moment the corn hole set was brought out. The chill vibe dissipated as competitive spirits came out. Still, the vibe rolled back in like the tide as dinner and drinks were had. On the evening, Andrew O'Connor '11, 6th native generation Californian and Stedsman, said, "It's always fun to reconnect with college friends, but getting together with Notre Dame friends is something special. It was a joy to host Father Ralph and fellow Stedsmen for a Saturday night BBQ. Games, good food, and great company made for an awesome night. Looking forward to doing it again next year Father Ralph!!"

I am sure Fr. Ralph is too.

Fr. Corby outside Corby Hall

...on July 2nd, 1863, the future President of Notre Dame, Fr. William Corby, CSC, gave General Absolution to the Union's Irish Brigade on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg. One of only three persons having a statue at the actual battlefield AND be a general, Fr. Corby has yet another statue commemorating his actions at Notre Dame. This campus statue of Fr. Corby is a copy of the one at Gettysburg. And there's your Notre Dame history lesson... a day early too!
